WOW, Backstrom makes less then Spezza. The deal gets worse and worse for Ottawa.

Awesome deal for The Caps if true, Backstrom is a top 5 center in The NHL and he will be leading The NHL in points next year IMO. There is your Art Ross winner for 10/11.

Things have changed economically in the NHL. New deals are in place to circumvent the cap, when Spezza, Heatley and Fisher came up, no one knew what to do.

Backstrom is pretty close to a steal at less then 7 mil, such a complete player, creative, hard working, and an under rated goal scorer. Amazing for The Caps but it will be tougher to build The defense with Backstrom and Ovechkin taking up close up over 16 mill dollars.

Pretty close to a steal, yeah. At first I was all over this as being the bargain of the century, then you wonder, if it's a decade long contract, couldn't the number have been in line with Toews, Kane and Keith? 6.3? Maybe even 6? But whatever, he's a great player.

The Keith deal is the most impressive in the league IMO. Backstrom is better then Kane for sure and Toews and he are pretty close to being on the same level, Backstrom has a bit of an edge IMO.

Yeah, it's good. Nothing much to say, may have overpaid by 6, 700K, but in the long run, this is one of the better centers in the league already, so it works out.

Anyways, Backstrom is the next great Swede along with Karlsson so good for Washington, huge signing.
