That should have happened the day after he signed that contract, 4-5 years ago. Ditto with Drury. Laugh1

Greg Brady: BREAKING: Sportsnet's Louis Jean reporting on Brady & Lang that the Montreal Canadiens will be buying out Scott Gomez's contract.

Bob McKenzie says that if the new GM buys out Gomez, he should resign immediately thereafter. He says it would be an incompetent move.

The buyout has serious cap implications for the first two years, and in a time when there is cap uncertainty with the CBA expiring. It is a risky move.

They should just send him down like Rags did with Redden. Eat the money, save the cap space.

They're 2 seasons away from burning away his contract.....just send him to the minors. Maybe they get lucky and he'll bolt to the KHL (or pick-up on re-entry)

EDIT: they most definitely shouldn't buy him out before the new CBA is negotiated but I guess there's only a certain window where you can buy out players.

yes especially after all the talk of him being a candidate to replace BM.

if the habs buy gomex out they're only saving a few milions in real money. totally stupid move. then again you don't necessarily want him in Hamilton either. send him to europe I say.

Is that a direct quote from "Bergie" himself?!?!?

Heh. SensChirp: When describing the key qualities Marc Bergevin brings to Habs GM job, Geoff Molson opened with "He was born in Montreal.".

Bergevin says it's 'necessary and important to have a head coach who is bilingual'.

Sounds like same old song and dance.

Too much focus on where the person is from and what language they speak... it ends up taking the focus away from getting the best coach available.

I don't know a lot about Bergevin, but it sounds like he has a good pedigree. Weird, though, that Montreal seems to have made a positive move.
