And then the Habs would be getting under Subban's skin. Nothing like shipping a player off to Columbus ....

So what are PK's comparables?

Carlson, Del Zotto, Doughty?

Carlson: 6 years, $23.8M, $3.966M cap hit
Del Zotto: 2 years, $5.1M, $2.55M cap hit
Doughty: 8 years, $56M, $7M cap hit

I'm sure PK's team want to use Doughty as the yard stick, and the Habs prefer Del Zotto.

So, somewhere in between eh? 3 years @ $4.5M.

Done.

Sign or trade him, that is the question...

I think DZ is a good comparison. Let's see what you can do in a 2 years term, then re evaluate

Yeah, closer to DZ for sure. I can see Bergevin's reasoning and I applaud him for sticking to his guns and fiscal logic... but it's gotta be tough for Habs fans to see this happening.

That sounds about right, although if I'm PK, maybe I want that to only be a 2 year deal, with the theory being I'll score a big contract sooner.

Habs seem hell bent on a 2-year deal so that may end up being the only way for him.

One of the talking heads on TV last night had a great point…if this was still Pierre Gauthier running the show and not having signed PK, fans would've burned the Bell Centre to the ground already. Seems they're giving Bergevin the benefit of the doubt…for now. Of course, it's easy to cut him some slack when the team is winning. If things go south in Montreal, the "We want PK" chants will start up.

Per Kypreos:

"Critical in-person meet' this morn bet'wn #Canadiens mang'mnt / @PKSubban1 Newport group. Offer must start around Benn's 26M to have chance"

I can't see the Habs ever offering around $26M considering they want a 2 year deal. This negotiation could stretch into next year.

MacLean had a interesting idea on HC@Noon. Subban should sign a 2-year deal, $4.5M/year. More than the Habs want, but meets their term needs. Then he can cash in on his third contract after two years, which would potentially pay him more than any deal he'll get now.

Problem is, if he bonks in the next two years... he could be in trouble. Habs must like their prospect depth at D to be holding out like this.

Pretty sure you mean grape soda. At least that's what Darren Pang thinks.

Soda? What's that? That's not what it's called.

What a silly thing to say. How could Benn and Subban be considered comparables in any sense of the word? They both play hockey?

That or his demands are actually crazy and they're worlds apart.

Isn't Subban represented by the same agent(or agency) as Doughty ?

Yeah .... this could drag on.

I wonder if the Habs are being cheap or Subban is being greedy. I know he wants a long-term deal and Habs want a short term but they're not even close on $$$.

I was listening to 690 (the new sports station in Montreal) while picking my kid up after his exam. They were talking about how the Habs have all the parts for a successful team:

A true #1 goalie: Price ... check
A "horse" on defense: Subban ... check
A PP QB: Markov ... check

They went on from there. Something about size down the middle (Galchenyuk and Pacioretty), a power forwards in Cole, then how they would have a core with which they could compete for the Cup for years to come.

Umm, Cole is not a power forward anymore, not like before, and not fore very much longer. Markov has played fewer than 30 games in the last two calendar years, I think. His next injury may be his last, and not in the good way. Subban a horse? I think if you asked him he'd say "I'm a stallion!" but that really wouldn't mean that much.
