Sounds like Bergevin wanted to go with someone he knew and was probably worried that Roy would be bigger than life due to his meaning to the team and the city.

It will be interesting to see if Therrien has learned his lesson and has changed his ways.

Habs were very limited from the get go, so, really... not much of a choice out there for them.

What was Therrien's problem? Why'd he get fired in the first place? I didn't pay any attention to the Habs back then.

Therrien's a hard-Donkey and that's what they want. Nothing wrong with him. Message to PK Subban: "Bucklez-vous"

The beginning of the end for Therrien in Montreal was when he cost them the game and many feel the series vs Carolina back in '02. Habs had a 2-1 series lead and a 3-0 lead in the game. Therrien blew a gasket and took a bench penalty that put them down 2 men. Carolina got back into the game and ended up winning the game and series. They had a mediocre start to the next season and he was gone. He is a hard nosed coach for sure and preaches a defensive style system...

If Therrien can get through to Price, PK, Gorges and the core... then he'll probably do well. Time will tell if he wears out his invite...

He wasen't well liked by the players in Pittsburgh also. This is going to get ugly real fast IMO.

Good news for us, less competition in the NE for playoff spots Laugh1

Price is a huge x-factor but I don't think he's enough to carry them through. I think they lost a lot when the lost Gill.

The Habs will need an identity and MT isn't the guy to give them that. He doesn't even know what he wants his team to be so...

Goalie winning 40 games on his own isn't a identity either.

It'll be interesting to see how aggressive Bergevin is in free agency and via trades. That is all.

No one wants to sign in Montreal. Fact of the matter is their taxes are out of this world, the city is unstable, and the media makes it close to impossible to play there. Trades yes, UFA, not gonna happen.

Ottawa had 3 rookies from the Bingo team. Don't exaggerate. Smith and Condra were not rookie. Even if you include them and Butler, that's 6 players, which isn't close to 50%. And we did not shake up our roster at all from the end of the previous season, the shake-up was done at the deadline. Fact is I don't think Montreal needs a shakeup as they have a good core.

This is just typical Leafs/Habs hatred to me. Everybody counted out Ottawa last year, now you're counting the Habs out. Don't count anybody out is the moral of the story. The Habs are definitely not as bad as you think they are.

A core of Subban, Price, Cole, Pacioretty, Desharnais, along with the potential addition of their 2rd overall pick, along with rookies like Tinordi, has the makings of a POTENTIAL playoff team.

So what what if we did a shakeup at the deadline the previous roster ? I consider them rookies because it was their first full 82 game season not a bunch of meaningless games with the Sens eliminated from the playoffs.

It's not hatred, it's legitimate skepticism. Price is an x-factor but that's it. Whos' going to score ? I doubt Cole will have another season like he did ? Rene Bourque ?

Ha, I was just gonna say the same thing. What UFAs will Montreal attract?

They're lucky they have a young goal scorer in Pacioretty. Plekanec is good, Gionta is due for a bounce back, not sure Markov will ever be healthy, but if he is, that's a big piece. Subban we'll see...not a fan at all personally. Gorges is excellent. Cole is due for 20-25 goals, Leblanc and Eller are growing. They just signed Belieau (sp) and they have Tinordi challenging this year.

Deharnais is solid. There's a lot to build on.

Forgot about Gionta and Gorges. This team has a good core.

Cole's season was basically his average season for his career. He's a 60 point winger guaranteed, very speedy and can put the puck in the back of the net.

Cole will be 34 next year, he might decline.

His shooting % was on the high side as well.

Yeah, I put him down to 20-25 goals from 35. He's good though.

Habs assistant coaches (Cunneyworth and Ladouceur) are let go.
