You won't be seeing Darcy Tucker on an NHL ice surface this season.
The feisty forward, who saw stops in Montreal, Tampa, Toronto and Colorado over the course of 14 seasons, has decided to retire from hockey, according to TSN.
Tucker was keen to play at least one more season in the NHL, but there were no offers made during the offseason.
"Darcy's preparing like he's going to play," agent Carlos Sosa told QMI Agency in mid-September. "But he's also preparing for not playing. I think he understands the situation."
In retirement, Tucker will still be receiving an NHL paycheck. The Maple Leafs must pay him $1 million for each of the next four seasons, the terms of his buyout agreement still in effect.
The native of Castor, Alta., was drafted by the Canadiens in the 6th round (151st overall) in 1993.
In 947 career NHL games, Tucker scored 215 goals and 476 points and amassed 1410 minutes in penalties.
