I'd be pissed at the refs this time. I hate that excuse, but they were rancid tonight.

While Senators coach Cory Clouston didn't exactly use the same words he had a similar opinion. With just two more exhibition games remaining he sees a need for improvement.

"Everything needs to improve," said Clouston. "The power play wasn't very good, but everything needs to be better."

Why this team Dung the bed everytime we play the Leafs is beyond me. I know it's preseason but we had regular season games last year that went the same way.

Let's not oversee the fact that this was pre-season game #2 for a lot of our players and we didn't have our shutdown line (Kelly, Neil, Ruutu) nor did we have Phillips who is arguably our #1 d-man. Also, we had three power-play goals against which was the result of not being able to get the puck out of the zone. Overall, we held the Leafs to 19 shots and not a lot of scoring chances.

I have my doubts about Cowen this year, albeit he did look a lot better last night than in previous nights. I think Wiercioch is going to be a stud for this time and as of now is more NHL ready than Cowen. His first pass is great, and it's evident he's got a good hockey sense. Unfortunately, I find he's very slow without the puck and needs to fill out his frame for him to be more effective. He moves the puck well and played Kessell very well last night.

Kovalev to me had a good night as well. He stepped up against Beauchemin, he was moving his legs, and he was creating chances. He looks like he's in good shape and he's playing with some emotion. Let's hope this lasts and he can rub off on the rest of the team. Nice to see Smith play with a chip on his shoulder, and nice to see Spezza dumping the puck into the zone.

damn wish I saw yesterday's game. I wanna know how Leclaire played. That's 8 goals in 2 games for him. Add him to the list of disappointments at camp so far

He was quite good, kept the Sens in the game for the most part. Can't fault him for any of the goals that I can recall. Although, I missed the 2nd Toronto goal because I was so disgusted with the reffing I went upstairs for a while.

Nothing Lehner couldn't have done though - and possibly better. So Leclaire will have to focus on making that *one* extra save that lifts the Sens.

Leclaire is my biggest concern. I know it's preseason and all.

4 goals on 19 shots. Yes we have sloppy defense, PK etc.

Really that seems to be the story on him (when he is playing and healthy):

Make some flashy, highlight reel worthy saves but still let in enough goals to post a Dung save% and lose the game. You can blame some of the goals on bad bounces, deflections and sloppy defense but it's not like Elliott or other goalies don't have to deal with those but they post better numbers and win games more often.

People say he plays small, maybe he over commits doing his fancy pad saves and gets burned on rebounds. I don't know. I doubt he'll even come close to a shutout this year at this point.

He's probably just getting the rust out but it's eeringly similar to last year. Can't say he wasn't sharp or focused as he made some great stops.

I didn't get a chance to watch the whole game, but for the most part I was pretty impressed with Kovalev and Campoli tonight. Good to see those two start to get on track....

Yeah, Campoli definitely got the message. Very pleased to see it.

I hope this isn't going to be the theme on these GDT all year: this sky is falling Dung. If so, I'll start avoiding these threads from now.

Nah the sky isn't falling, some of just didn't get what we expected.

Plus I hate losing to Toronto, preseason or not.

Losing to Toronto always makes it worse than it really is. The effort was disappointing last night and the fact that they didn't "wake up" until later is frustrating. The chemistry is not there yet on D and it will come. Cowen struggled last night and our PP (when we had the chance) was simply useless. I think what bugs people the most from last night is that it looked all too familiar to games we saw last season.

But, it's pre-season, we were missing some key players and the young kids are still learning. So, take it for what it's worth. The Leafs had pretty much their full line-up there, and let's not forget, Kessel is a scoring machine. Kadri was under huge pressure to perform and he stepped up.

One game does not make the Sens.

I'm pretty sure for most people its a tongue and cheek statement. I'm pretty sure we all realize that it's the preseason, and teams definitely play different in the preseason. Heck i think Toronto was 6-3 in the preseason last year, look at how well that worked for them. Even Pittsburgh was 1-4-1 and chicago was 2-3-1.

Yeah I don't think the vets really cared for that game much.

My favorite thing from the game is the team sticking up for Alfie and Karlsson. That's probably a good sign of team chemistry if they're sticking up for each other, even non-fighters like Kovalev.

Hopefully there's an attitude in the dressing room that we're not going to be pushed around and if you hit our captain or star players you're gonna pay.

I only saw highlights and some of the play-by-play on the radio but I heard Leclaire got knocked down. I think it was unintentional but I hope someone got a facewash for that as well. Touching our goalie is another no-no.

You'll get that from time to time. No one likes to see their team not play well, but in the end, you're right, the sky isn't falling.

Plus...it's not as if the sky if falling - however...every single solitary game this year will mean something in the grand scheme of things. It won't be the end of the world if the Sens lose a game, but it's how they lose the game IMO.

Yesterday is nothing, I'm surprised Clouston was that pissed about it. I said to SG11 last night after the 1st that I was horrified by the compete level in the period, but then in the 2nd it got better and better until we took the lead in the 3rd - that's what coaching is all about. Getting the guys to wake the F up and get with the system/program.

If I was Clouston, I would have been ejected from that game for cussing out the refs - and I would have paid my fine afterwards to say that it doesn't matter if the refs don't like our team or whatever the Cuss it is, you still have to call the game properly. Not Cussing way I want to go through a season full of this nonsense. No way.

Cowen gave up a couple of horrific pucks that lead to goals, that's life, he's still awesome. Leclaire shook off more rust and actually looked pretty good considering the Leafs had 9 PPs and scored 3 times. What can we do? No Kelly, no Phillips...screw that, it was gonna happen.

Call it what you want, I like the kid a lot, really smart player, excellent positionally. If he's not awesome, he's well on his way IMO.

Doesn't change my opinion that while he could easily play NHL hockey, I like seeing these guys develop properly, so Spokane is probably the best fit.
