I really like Wideman. I think he is very much a Dan Boyle type pick. Small, RH D man who is going to have a ton of time to mature. Great shot, good passer, a little small but like I said, he has a ton of time. That's the type of guy that will come in and fill that number 5, 6 role one day. Very high on him and think he will be an asset one day soon for The Sens organization.

I think that was such a solid pick my Murray last year.

Oh yeah, it's a smart pick. Set yourself up at every position so you can internally replace guys that leave for greener pastures. That's the name of the game, too bad Muckler didn't read the rules.

Yup, that's what Wideman will indeed be with Ottawa one day.

That's why drafting guys for need in the later rounds is so important, early rounds you take BPA's, drafting for need is stupid at that point. If you need an Van to take the kids to soccer, are you going to turn down a Ferarri if you can get one at the same price? Doubtful.

I guess when Muckler was GMing, cap space wasn't an issue, so the need to build from within wasn't as strong as it is now.

That's all I can come up with, because he did precious little.

Ok, explain The Russians, haha.

Muckler was an awful GM and didnt win a thing as one in The NHL. He took a shot on Hasek and Satan in Buffalo and it worked out, basically evey other move he made was garbage. The guy was an idiot and so out of touch with the current state of hockey that he still doesnt think goalies need masks.

Yeah, it would be hard to defend Muckler after seeing what it really takes to win. Being horrible and getting nice draft picks aside, there's a ton of work to do - and I get the sense that Muckler let his associates do most of the work.

There much more to being a GM than just showing up.

The fact Murray has signed more prosects in his short time then Muckler ever did is honestly amazing. It seems he signed more this year alone then Muckler ever did.

Look no further then Winchester and Butler to see what kind of work Murray puts into The Sens. Both are free prospects that took no assets to obtain. He did it in Florida, Anahiem, and now Ottawa.

It speaks of Murray's true experience as a GM and Muckler's passing interest IMO. You can't always rely on draft picks and trades - ESPECIALLY if you're a successful team like we were.

that's what pains me to hear we only extended BM for another year. i know he said he's not getting any younger but come on... does anyone really think he'll walk away from hockey? i'm not sure what's behind that move, if there's any expectations for him to fill out.

speaking of muckler, isn't he with the Oilers right now?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Mr.Yzerman and the next GM of the Ottawa Senators. He has talked to other teams and that may indeed be the next move.

Yzerman is not a huge fan of Murray from what I hear.

That's only an isssue because I fully expect Murray to stay in the front office once he's retired.

I think we can expect Tim Murray, although I'm gonna hop on the Paul Fenton bandwagon.

Yup, Poile gets way too much credit in Nashville. I am 100% with you on that one but I think it would be tough for Yzerman to turn down a job with a Canadian market as The GM, especially the city he grew up in.

Either way, Im on board with whoever. I dont think Tim Murray will get that GM job, at least I dont think he would... could be wrong though.

Wasn't Cyril Leeder named President just this past season?

He's executive VP I think. But the man in charge of hockey operations (ie. GM).

Cyril Leeder is in fact, the President (Roy Mlakar's old job)

Would Murray want to be the President though? What does that entail?
