I know in The Rangers cup run he was tearing it up... from what I remember about the guy, during the playoffs, he usually shows up in some pretty big ways.

As long as Kovalev is on when the playoffs hit, I dont care all that much about the right now.

Lets dial things back a bit here. If he makes The Sens next year then we can start talking about that, but as of right now he is an over ager tearing aprt The QJMHL. I like the guy, a lot actually, lets start to come back down to earth right now.

His shot is lethal though, that might be NHL worthy at this point. It's a bullet to say the least.

He was *specifically* talking about his shot being top-3 on the Sens. So he'd have to be better than two of Fisher, Alfredsson, Spezza and Michalek. Or better than three of the above plus Cullen?

I think if you could get a real great guy to run the powerplay, you bring him in (maybe as a consultant) and you assign other duties to the current powerplay coach (who is that anyways) but you don't fire him (until later)

Work on what you have been working on, hopefully the tallent can get it sorted out.

Could they bring in an outside consultant? I don't think the Sens have an assistant coach *specifically* tagged with the power-play. If it's Clouston, then he's not getting fired for this, and he's got a small enough ego that he won't stand in the way if this improves the team.

I think this might be something that Alfie, Spezza, Kovalev etc. need to figure out for themselves by reviewing tape over and over again. It has to be something when the Flyers and Habs have some of the top ranked PPs in the league. Pronger adds a massive dimension obviously, but just watching them in action, then re-watching your PPs would probably be a good start.

There's so much talent...it will be righted soon...right?

Kuba? Really?

It sounded like he was talking about wrist/snap shots, not slappers. So I'd leave off Karlsson until I see what he can do there. Fisher has a hard shot but his aim could be better. Kovalev has a lethal wrister as well.

So top-three is a stretch even if you filter it down to wrist shots.

Just double-checked, and the Sens have three assistant coaches (Carvel, Richardson, Lauer) and a video coach (former communications guy Pattyson). None of the ACs have specific responsibilities described on the web page. Of course we all know that's not the actual situation, and *someone* has to be responsible for the power-play. That person, whoever it is, needs help.

I don't know if it's been brought up by anybody but the amount of whining the Flyers fans are doing over on HF is laughable. All of their players are apparently little angels. GAME DAY:Philadelphia Flyers @ Ottawa Senators– 7:30PM EST, Tuesday, March 23, 2010. - Page 12 270956

We're 74 games into the season. Our p-play has been at the bottom of the league basically since the beginning. I don't believe it will automatically, magically fix itself overnight. I'm sorry I think we need some help; divine or other ...

I'm sure the PP coach, whoever he is, is doing a good job. These players just don't execute. You hear Clouston talk about what he wants from the PP and he gets pretty much the opposite game after game.

I said it to them and I'll keep repeating it:

The refs did everything in their power to even up the game. They gave the Flyers a 5 on 3 for 2 full minutes and they Flyers had back to back power-plays to end the game. It's not our fault that their PP looked like ours (crappy) and that no one took the initiative to...I don't know...score? I noticed that our goals for relative to our goals against is -14 and yeah our PP sucks, so does our consistent goaltending, scoring from the blueline, yet we're still 5th in the East. Can anyone explain the phenomenon?

We're still 5th because of Parity.

If we had a decent powerplay, we'd be a cup contender in better shape.

You misunderstood, top 3 shots on the Sens.

Fisher, Alfi, Spezza, Karlsson, Kuba all have cannon's, that's even a stretch.

FIsher and Kuba may have powerful shots but you have to consider other factors like accuracy, quickness (?)of release for one timers etc.
And I wouldn't compare a defenseman's shot to a sniper either.

I think with a top ten Power play we'd be first in the division and fighting for 2nd in the conference personally. Something like that means that we'd be talking about our chances in round 2 rather than, if we get in, can we make it out of round 1.

I agree.

Talk to me about playoff Kovalev. When the playoffs come, I pretty much limit myself to following a few teams, and MTL isn't really one of them, so I've never really seen much of him in the playoffs. Does Kovalev thrive in the postseason, or is it just another time of the year for him to go hot & cold, just as he feels?

I've followed the last MTL playoffs and most nights he was the best MTL player, when it wasn't Carey Price.

What's funny is, MTL's powerplay is like 23% when MA Bergeron is playing, and like 13% when he's not.
For the SEns, it's awful, whoever is on the ice.
