Less than 4 hours to go. Will Fisher make it? Will Bergeron?

http://www.ctvolympics.ca/hockey/news/newsid=23455.html?cid=rsstsn

The roster announcement will air Dec. 30 exclusively on CTV, TSN, javascript:emoticonp('Laughing3')Rogers Sportsnet, OLN, OMNI, APTN, ATN, /A\, CTV News Channel, CP24, CP24 and NHL Network. French coverage will appear exclusively on RDS and RIS Info Sports.

Exclusive? Really? Will I even be able to watch or listen to anything else? Laughing3

Added a poll on whether Fisher makes it or not.

O'Donnell makes a case for Doughty:
http://www.ctvolympics.ca/hockey/news/newsid=24161.html?cid=rsstsn

Very compelling. I'd much rather have him than Pronger, to be honest. Can't stand the guy. And Niedermayer retired two years ago. Make up your friggin' mind. Thornton, as many points as he's getting playing with Marleau and (hate to say it) Heatley, just lacks the intensity. If we get to the gold medal game, skill alone is not going to cut it. Does Thornton have that extra level?

Anyhow, I'm not Yzerman, so my opinion means nothing. It's just three players I wouldn't mind *not* seeing. Oh, and Heatley, of course.

I agree with your Heatley and Thornton takes and Pronger to the extent that I hate the guy as well but I think he'd help team Canada.

I'd vote Taxi squad except I heard that they won't have taxi squads this Olympics.

I want to root for my team. I couldn't root for Heatley (he can play for Germany for all I care) or Pronger. I don't mind Niedermayer or Thornton, but I seriously think Thornton lacks the intensity (you remember his comments when Marleau was stripped of the 'C' and everyone was wondering who would get it?) and I'm still a little miffed at Niedermayer for "retiring" at his age. I also still remember that Anaheim game I went to 2-3 years ago where I sat literally a row awy from the corner of their bench. He skated out for his shift, skated back to the bench and sat there waiting for his next turn. He *never* said a word to his team-mates, didn't see him cheering when they scored or encouraging them when things didn't go their way. Not my idea of what a Captain should be, not at all.

I guess you'll be cheering for Sweden then? I doubt both Heatley and Pronger are left off this team. Perhaps you could root for Team USA if Foligno makes it or maybe Russia with Volchenkov?

Just trying to help you out. You are Russian right? You could cheer for Volchie and the Russians. Smile

I was born in Moscow (A-Train's home town, I believe) and Ovechkin is my favorite player right now. So, yeah, it would be easy for me to switch. I'll still cheer for Canada, but in other games I'll be humming along with the anthem (don't know the new words yet). I want me one of those Team Russia jerseys, too. The new ones have the nice, large crest. Too bad they are the thin, crappy kind. For that kind of money I want it to feel like a hockey jersey. And the ones on that site that DTR mentioned don't have the large crest I like.

Assuming Fisher doesn't get named to the team do you think he gets on the roster if there's an injury or is he too far down the depth chart for that even?

I'm big on youth riding the taxi. I wouldn't have anyone over 25 on the taxi squad. Mine would be Toews, Doughty, and Fleury.

I thought there was no taxi squad? From what I heard on Sportsnet the other night, teams will carry 13 forwards, 7 D men, and 3 goalies and will be able to play any combination of those to make up their game day roster of 12 Forwards, 6 D-men and 2 Goalies.

Anyone else heard that?

Apparently the Taxi squad thing is old news. June 25th was when it came out it would seem.

what really pissed me off were kovalev's comments when he was left off the olympic roster. He actually didn't seem to care, and wouldn't say he was dissapointed (on second thought I probably shouldn't be surprised at this....but still makes me angry). Enigma or not, at least show a little more emotion when your own country acknowledges that you're not playing to the level that's expected.

You're right cap'n, no taxi squad. Not sure how everyone else feels about it, but I sure hope the nhl allows their players to go back for the olympics
