For me, I'm not a fan of his misuse of Cowen. Did he even play tonight?

Also, he waited two goals if not more too long to remove a shaky Allen. It was evident early on that he didn't have it going. Jones should have been in nets after the 3rd US goal.

I feel bad Pietrangelo, who got caught up ice prior to the 3 on 1. He was a real force for this team.

The more pressing issue was that Canada lacked a disciplined system IMO. The US' was significantly better.

Yeah, but let's be realistic here. We are sad that we didn't win our SIXTH gold in a row. How many nations even have 5 golds from this tourney other than Canada and Russia.

I just hope this isn't a preview of the Olympics. The US teams speed could give Canada fits in Vancouver.

Diddling pathetic. Diddle you Desjardins. Diddle you Taylor Hall. Diddle you Nazem Kadri. Diddle you coaching style. But most of all the biggest Diddle YOU is reserved for that Wing Dang Doodle Jake Allen. What a Diddling loser.

Cowen played, but did not see a lot of ice time. I recall a few passes going right to the stick of a USA player but he did have a great play at one point where the puck got by him at the blue line and he was able to get back and prevent a one-on-none break away. Again, not the type of highlights you want to be a part of.

Not a great tourney for Cowen.

US coach was right, the Americans played Canadian hockey, gritty, blocking shots and getting it done. Bah. Heartbreaking indeed.

Disappointing loss but not unexpected based on the earlier meeting between these two teams. Hey, Canada did win Silver for cryin' out loud. 5 golds and a silver in the last 6 tournaments is ridiculously good.

I'm proud of the team and Eberle is freakin' crazy good. Who drafted him? I'm assuming he's already been drafted. Am I wrong?

Eberle was drafted by the Oilers in 2008. 22nd over all.

That pick was the one that came to them from the Ducks as part of the Pronger trade in 2006. Their own 2008 first round pick went to the Ducks with the Penner pinch.

PKC, come on, man, not called for.

Heart-breaking would have been for the US to lose it. They deserved it, Canada did not. Would it have been a different outcome if the foalie got pulled sooner? Maybe. Would it have been different if they played penalty-free hockey? No-comment. Would it have been different if Hamonic had been playing (some blame the coach for leaving him out in a chippy game late)? Who knows.

Bottom line is Canada played poorly as a team and had shaky goaltending from start to finish (no way that puck should go in, 3-1 or not, the D played it perfectly to take away the pass, that was the friggin' Gold-medal winning goal). Well deserved win for the US.

Taken 7 spots after Karlsson... hmmm... I still say I think this will haunt Ottawa and *a lot of* teams.

Also, tip of the hat to the US coach. Class act. He said that they won by playing Canadian hockey and that who better to learn from than the best. Also acknowledged that Canada sends the most players to the NHL.

Parise on the other hand was pretty arrogant when he said that he was tired of this Hockey is Canada crap and that the US was going to win the WJC and he was going to make some money from Marty (Brodeur).

Considering the population difference in the US and Canada it's pretty clear that Hockey IS in fact Canada and it's not crap but I could be wrong.

It was a dumb comment, wish I could find it. I think TSN had the interview prior to the game. Hockey is still Canada's game, despite the 6 to 24 team disadvantage and the WJC finals. If you were to poll Canada and the USA, Hockey would rank #1 as the Nat'l sport and Football/Baseball/Basketball would all be 1,2,3 in some order, with Hockey being even further down the list. It would likely vary from State to State, but I'm sure it would be no higher than 4th on most lists.

If the Canadian coach Willie or whatever had done his job properly, by the time the Gold Medal game came around Cowen would have been with Pieterangelo or Teubert playing a mean, consistent shutdown game. By not playing him for one second, but dressing him nonetheless, he single-handedly killed Cowen's confidence and whether he knew it or now, depleted the Canadian D by one more - especially after the injury to Harmonic.

I am not pleased with way Cowen was handled, but I thought I would shut up and wait to see the result. Well, here's the result: we lose and we let in 6 goals in the process.

Don't come back next year Willie, we need a real coach. Thanks! Mad
