Parise on the other hand was pretty arrogant when he said that he was tired of this Hockey is Canada crap and that the US was going to win the WJC and he was going to make some money from Marty (Brodeur).

Considering the population difference in the US and Canada it's pretty clear that Hockey IS in fact Canada and it's not crap but I could be wrong.

It was a dumb comment, wish I could find it. I think TSN had the interview prior to the game. Hockey is still Canada's game, despite the 6 to 24 team disadvantage and the WJC finals. If you were to poll Canada and the USA, Hockey would rank #1 as the Nat'l sport and Football/Baseball/Basketball would all be 1,2,3 in some order, with Hockey being even further down the list. It would likely vary from State to State, but I'm sure it would be no higher than 4th on most lists.

If the Canadian coach Willie or whatever had done his job properly, by the time the Gold Medal game came around Cowen would have been with Pieterangelo or Teubert playing a mean, consistent shutdown game. By not playing him for one second, but dressing him nonetheless, he single-handedly killed Cowen's confidence and whether he knew it or now, depleted the Canadian D by one more - especially after the injury to Harmonic.

I am not pleased with way Cowen was handled, but I thought I would shut up and wait to see the result. Well, here's the result: we lose and we let in 6 goals in the process.

Don't come back next year Willie, we need a real coach. Thanks! Mad

How about Petersson and Silfverberg though. Whew! Petersson with a hat trick last night, Silfver with 2 goals as well. Petersson is the top scoring Swede in this tourney in the last 17 years.

Why do I get the feeling that if he was on Canada, people would be treating him like a messiah? A little like...Jordan Eberle perhaps?

I'm pretty sure Parise's dad used to be Canadian and spelled his name "Parisé". So he should really shut the Diddle up.

Petersson will seem even more messianic when he plays on Ottawa's 2nd line with MSP. The Official 2010 WJC Thread - Page 28 235689 The Official 2010 WJC Thread - Page 28 805406

Or Silfverberg considering that's way more likely to happen than MPS.

Like this:

Petersson (can play either wing) - Regin - Silfverberg

That kind of funky Dung.

If Murray doesn't at least try to acquire MPS from Edmonton using Spezza (and sign Z. Michalek in the off-season) I'm firing him.

Just sign Michalek in the off-season and I'm happy. I'm not 100% on trading Spezza, I'll wait to see what he does when he comes back.

Perhaps he gets M Michalek scoring again?

Considering the respective populations, and given the fact that they're the reigning Olympic Gold champs and have medalled three consecutive times at this tournament, how does that logic not also defend the argument that hockey is Sweden?

Meh, I'm not really that worried. Michalek works his arse off even when he's not scoring. We were told by Sharks' fans that he was really streaky and that when he took the next step (and it was always a WHEN he takes the next step, not if), that would mean the end of his streakiness. I think it's coming to an end, he's working pretty hard out there, but he needs to revert back to camping himself in front of the opposing goalie and causing havoc.

At least he still utilizes his speed and his PKing prowess - he'll come out of this. I think in the future he and Erik Karlsson will be the two guys who click the most, because Karlsson is such a nice passer and Michalek can get himself behind defenders - and then has the jets to kick it into high gear to get away from them.

Good point about Cowen. Has me worried he will be a bust, but it is pretty bad to bench a player like that. He should have been played and more importantly, used in the right manner. If his speed was a weakness, put him with a faster partner.

I hope this has not ruined him completely.

Again, I think you overstate the importance of the WJHC (TSN does too). Alex Pietrangelo one year ago was universally denigrated as a bust at 18 after his performance. Now at 19 in a U-20 tournament everyone's done a complete 180.

Cowen's in a similar situation at worst. But he was also mishandled (the whole team was poorly coached, though, so that's not my biggest complaint about Desjardins), plus it's only about a year after Cowen's injury which should take 18 months to rehab, plus that injury made him lose a lot of development time making him untechnically one of the youngest players on the team.

Anyway, I think DeHaan was worse last night.

Desjardins might be the worst coach to ever coach our junior team. What a pathetic coaching job he did. Underused his players, overused others that shouldn't have been (Patrice Cormier I'm looking right at you) and stayed with a goaltender that was clearly shaky from the first shot of the game.

This tournament set Cowen's development back more than anything else. Pathetic.

Nah, don't worry about this tourney for Cowen, he wasn't used right, he was mishandled BADLY, he'll be 100% fine. Get him back to Spokane and get him on the ice for 25 minutes a night while he leads the BEST defense in the league.

Get him as far away as possible from Wilie and Team Canada right now. He was playing well for Spokane before this, he'll be a rock for them now. He'll be even more intent on leading them after this debacle IMO. And his leg still needs 8 months of rehab IMO - and playing with Spokane and working hard off the ice - then working like a madman in the summer should bring him up to speed.

De Haan, I'm looking at you as well. Diddling frustrating. All I wanted was Canada to win the Gold, then I wanted to get Cowen the Diddle away from that poison. Now he can't even recall this even with even the smallest fondest memory because of Desjardins.
