From Canwest News Services today:

TAMPA, Fla. - Ottawa Senators defenceman Anton Volchenkov will miss at least three weeks with an injury to his right elbow.

The veteran blue-liner suffered the injury near the end of Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Panthers when a Florida player fell on him during a collision near the Ottawa net.

The full extent of the injury won't be determined until Volchenkov undergoes an MRI when the team returns to Ottawa.

"It's a big injury for us," said Chris Phillips, Volchenkov's defensive partner. "We're going to miss him for sure. He plays a lot of minutes for us."

To take Volchenkov's spot, Brian Lee will be recalled from Binghamton of the American Hockey League.

Sorry to hear that. Anton's a good guy.

Good work Dave in pinning that down.

this is huge, our shutdown pair has been broken up for 3 weeks, rest up A-Train, we will try and deal without you, the goalies will be that much busier now however.

Who has said 3 weeks? No one I've seen from the Sens have said a minimum of three weeks.

No offense to the article, but they don't quote their source for the time frame.

Well, we only play 2 games from this Friday to next Friday, and 3 per for the 2 after that ... this injury could have come at a worse time, that's for sure.

3 weeks, no back to backs, all home games but 2, a fair share of 'tougher' and 'lighter' teams ahead of us... could have been a lot worse, all things considered.

Diddle...2 games from Friday to Friday? What is this Dung? We're lucky, but at the same time, it's ludicrous in a condensed schedule for this to happen. Mid-November is gonna be hell on us.

doesn't sound too bad since you stepped back and analyzed our upcoming schedule, Carkner can fill in his minutes on the PK and against top lines, he has proved more than worthy enough to be counted on for that.

I suspect that most teams will go through this though. It's a goofy Donkey schedule so far though with some teams playing 13, while Atlanta has only played 8.
