Notes: The Senators are in Montreal on Saturday night.
It'll be Kovalev's first game there since leaving the Canadiens to sign
with Ottawa in the off-season. a Centres Peter Regin (upper body), Ryan Shannon (suspected concussion) and Jesse Winchester (knee) and defenceman Filip Kuba (lower body) all sat out with injuries.

I think someone forgot to proof-read that part. Shannon definitely played last night and I didn't hear a thing about him being taken out of the lineup either. Unless I read it somewhere else I chalk that up to a minor error on the part of TSN.ca.

Oh, for sure. I saw him in the first (I think) making a nifty move carrying the puck on a PP (putting on the brakes like he's going to set-up at the blue line then dishing a nice pass to a rushing winger). Sadly, that was the only nice play I saw from him (although I did not watch the third and most of the 2nd).

Great game all around.  Exactly what the doctor ordered.  But, aside from the first few minutes of the game and especially after the first MM shortie, Tampa looked flat.  I mean, our break out has been pretty solid but Tampa made it look like we were breaking out against pylons.Saturday should be a good game.  Montreal is going to be angry after the home opener loss.  It'll be a good test.

He was a 2nd round pick back in the day for The Habs so he has tallent, hopefully he can stick around here in Ottawa and do what he's doing for a few more years.

Absolutely one of my favorite players on that team right now and he does provide a little offence!

I'm more than pleasantly surprised by some of the nice passes he's made and he can do a little rushing with the puck too. Nice all-around defenseman.

Phillips tape-to-tape pass on the Foligno goal is nothing to sneeze at either.

Amazing game for a Sens fan ! GAME DAY: Tampa Bay Lightning @ Ottawa Senators - 7:30pm ET - Thu. Oct. 15th, 2009 - Page 19 Icon_cheers We destroyed them ! MM was amazing and the Spezza line was there again.

The team is playing better and better and we finally had the offensive breakout game we desperately needed.

Nobody looked out of place last night on this team except Karlsson and Campoli. EK is obviously a rookie, Hedman made a couple of mistakes last night as well.

Who's Kuba gonna replace when he's back ?

We've already decided long ago that it would be Campoli. SpezDispenser is about the only holdout -- regardless of Neely keeps saying, I think he (SD) is theonly one who wanted Picard gone before Campoli.

So how about it, SD, after seeing the two of them live, are you still more impressed with Campoli over Picard?

Just an aside about Picard. He had far and away the most icetime of any other Senator last night. He also pitched in for a goal, all be it a stinky one on the part of Mike Smith. I didn't see much to dislike in Picard's game last night but I did see a lot I didn't like in the pairing of Campoli and Karlsson. I know Karlsson's a rookie but has he won a single battle for a puck yet this season? Don't get me wrong I'm not crapping on Karlsson just a little frustrated with his lack of ability to win puck battles.

I'd say Volchenkov doesn't need to practice, as much as rest in between beatings. Who's the hot rookie in the Habs' lineup? Oh, lookie here, they've got two of them on left -- D'Agostini and Pacioretty (both sophomores, but close enough).

Winchester is not breaking into this lineup even if he's healthy, so might as well let him continue rehabbing.

Kuba? Tough one. Would you want to throw him in against a desperate team for his first game back? My gut says he's not going to play Saturday night, so it's the same situation as Winchester -- keep rehabbing.

Karlsson will be fine against the Keebler Elves, though.

Volchie took a pretty bad cross check from Malone on his first shift (at least it looked like a cross check from where I was sitting). He skated off right away but was back a couple of shifts later. Tough SOB.

I think shabbs may want to wait until he has some links for articles to post up. I mean it's still kinda early for a GDT don't you think?

A little off topic here...I was wondering why Foligno would have mentioned Redden as one of his close friends and I may have made the connection.  Redden also lost his mom to cancer and I remember when Neil lost his mom, he mentioned Redden helping him through it.  I'm guessing Redden did the same for Foligno.  On ice issues aside, Redden does seem to be a good guy...I just hope Foligno doesn't think ski trips are a way to deal with such a tough time in his life.

Yeah, I've got the majority of it done and ready in the hopper... just waiting for some final links/previews and it will be up later today. Want to hear the post-practice interviews etc...

Yeah, I'd say Volchie is just resting some bumps and bruises... but Kuba not skating was a surprise... they were hoping he would, this may put his Thursday return in jeopardy.
