Ohlund, Hedman, Meszaros, Ranger is a pretty damn nice top 4. Lashoff is also no slouch.

Their top 6 F are not too shabby either, with Lecavalier, St. Louis, Tanguay, Whitney, Stamkos as 5 of the 6 .

Nice signing for Tampa if this is true. Guy would put up 70 points playing with a Lecavalier and St. Louis.

It's for 2 million dollars apparently. 2 million...Chris Neil money. What a ridiculously good deal for almost a PPG player.

2.6 is what I have been hearing/reading. I haven't heard just 2 mill yet? Oh well, we will see.

Either way, another good move by Tampa. Things are looking up for them.

Personally I think he would have looked better on the 2nd line with Fisher at that price than the 5m to Kovalev

And you can probably bank on the fact that he wouldn't be talking about wanting to be in Montreal before ever slipping on the Sens jersey.

Damien Cristodero, who covers the Lightning for the Tampa-St Petersburg Tribune suggests the deal is all but done in his blog today:

"The agent for free-agent wing Alex Tanguay said his client will sign a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning after he passes a physical that will occur in Tampa on Monday or Tuesday.

'We have an agreement in principle,' agent David Ettedgui said Saturday. 'We're pretty happy he is with the Lightning and he's looking forward to giving his best.'
Tanguay, 29, has been a sought-after asset, and it is believed the Wild, and perhaps even the Islanders, were in competition with Tampa Bay. Ettedgui admitted the Lightning did not offer the largest contract, though he declined to get into specifics. But Ettedgui added, 'Sometimes money is not as important for us. It was very important we find (Tanguay) the best fit possible.'

Lecavalier, who played with Tanguay for Canada at the 1998 world junior championship, said he spoke to Tanguay twice, including Friday night.
'He asked me about Tampa and I told him about coming to the tam and the direction it is going,” Lecavalier said, and added, “Anybody that plays with a guy like Tanguay, he’s such a great passer and can score. He brings a lot to the team, so I’m excited.'

In an interview with Vincent Lecavalier, RDS evokes a 'new French Connection' (viz, the Sabres' legendary Perreault-Robert-Martin combo):

"(Lecavalier):'Tous les gars à qui j'ai parlé et qui ont joué en sa compagnie ont louangé ses habilités. Il va nous apporter plus d'offensive et aider l'équipe.'

Certains se mettent déjà à parler d'une nouvelle 'French Connection' à Tampa avec un trio Lecavalier-St-Louis-Tanguay.

(VL): 'J'ai joué avec Alex aux championnats du monde juniors en 1998 et c'est un joueur que j'apprécie.'"

There are major concerns over the status of Tanguay's shoulder. That, and he's a notoriously soft player.

$2.6 mil is probably a deal, but it's probably today's market value all things considering. Chris Neil aside, most players signed for less this year that could have been expected.

I don't quite understand where the criticism comes from :KJK: I think he's made nothing but solid moves. He's done an admirable job considering the ownership he's had to deal with.

I said earlier on this summer, and I'll say it again, Tampa Bay is a guarantee playoff team.
