But the Sillinger tour has already made its stop in Ottawa - wouldn't you expect it to go somewhere new?
(11 or so teams so far, why stop now?)

If memory serves, he's made at had 2 tours with a team at least once. He's great on the draw though. Never hurts to have a good FO guy, but not at the expense of a guy like Regin.

If that's all you want, we can go look for Yannic Perreault (can he move without a cane still?)

From a practical standpoint, Spezza should be able to turn into the face-off go-to guy for Ottawa - he has quick hands, and great vision, and he's relatively big and strong.

IMHO : Incredibly bad idea.

Really? Marleau is a phenomenal player. He's a left-handed Alfredsson. Slick wrist shot, speed to burn, great PKer. A well rounded player. If he gets to 38 and retires, he's off the books.

I'm a big Marleau fan, seeing him on a line with Alfie would be really neat. A line of Marleau - Fisher - Alfredsson has a really crazy 2-way potential to it.

I never said I wanted Sillinger. I was simply pointing out that he was valauble because of his prowess in the FO circle.

Spezza? After 6 seasons, he should have come around by now imo. I'm not saying he's absolutely terrible, but for a guy who takes the percentage of the teams draws that he does, I'd like a like more consistent winning percentage.

Marleau may not waive to come here.

It's funny to see how wide the difference of opinions on this guy are. I wouldn't touch him with a 12 foot pole. $6.3 million for him is ridiculous. That's getting close to superstar money, and Marleau isn't. 3 of 11 seasons were he got to (or close to) a PPG. The rest are very average. This guy's contract is worse than Fishers.

I think he's a decent player. $6.3 mil / yr is a little high, but just about everyone who has signed in the last 3 years is a little high, in my opinion. Still, he's just about a PPG player since the lockout, he can PK, he's a captain, etc.

My big beef is that he makes no sense for this team. Everyone and their mom knew that the Sens Diddle-ed up when we locked up $23+ mil in 4 forwards. Now, the chance comes for change, we sign a cheaper Heatley replacement in Kovalev, and still so many people here are clamouring to spend another $5+ mil on another forward, long-term, so that we can have nearly $27 mil tied up in 5 forwards moving forward.

It is the very definition of madness: doing the same thing over again and again but expecting different results. I'm flabbergasted and dismayed that so many intelligent posters at this site have gotten so caught up in the sex appeal of acquiring a big-name player that they've forgotten the the key lesson we've learned since June 2007:

Front-loaded, shallow teams sink in the playoffs. End of story.

If I was a true contender and had a little cap space left, I'd sign Sillinger tomorrow. You can put him out there to win defencive zone draws at key moments, or offensive ones at equally key moments.

The only problem is he's slow as molasses, so you have to hope he doesn't lose many.

Wow, what a great post. :^^^^: Holy Dung if I can't argue with a word of that.

It is the sexyness of it though, it really is. I see Marleau as the final forward piece of the puzzle with Cowen, Wiercioch and Karlsson filling in our back end. But I can be shifted several times in the flow of cap space economy. With Marleau we'd get a little more cuffed, without him we still have Cowen, Wiercioch and Karlsson - and now we add an extension to Volchenkov to round things out.

Frustration with Muckler sometimes. Knowing that our D is looked after (hopefully) in the coming years, but seeing the cupboards still horrendously bare at forward and trying to remedy it by acquiring the jigsaw pieces. Flawed for sure. It could work though, but it's a flawed way of looking at it.

He doesn't. FO's have been his meal ticket. That and a scoring knack that has had him score 20 on few occasions. Speed doesn't really matter as much when you have the ability to find the holes to be in, in the offensive zone.

Outside of the FO part, isn't Heatley an extreme example of this?

I wasn't attacking the idea of getting Sillinger - just pointing out (in an ineffective manner, it seems) that it would be more useful to get the guys we have, such as Fisher and Spezza, to actually learn how to win a few faceoffs once in a while.
