SensBuzz is "reporting" Elliott will get signed this weekend

I think this will happen. Sensbuzz or whatever has a history of sucking though, so I'm not sure about the 3 year deal.

I'm especially not sure of a 3 year deal at 1 million per year. That's 300K more than what Elliott's worth this year. I'd be surprised to hear Murray's willing to go higher that 700 to be honest.

I guess getting Elliott for the 3rd year evens it all out, but I'd rather do it year by year personally.

If you can get him to sign his name on that contract, you do it without even thinking twice.

This kid showed us what he can do with a suspect team in front of him...imagine what he could do with a proper group playing in front of him.

Not sure of the length of contract and not sure of the dollar amount??? Are we sure he has the player right or is there anything else SensBuzz could get wrong???

Bang on. I would see it being an issue if it was posted as a topic without the caveat (sp) that it was SensBuzz or not mentioning that the rumour has weak sources. I like when this stuff is posted because at the very least we can discuss the merits of such a transaction occuring.

I personally would love a deal that saw Elliott signed for 3M over 3 years. it doesn't add up though because Leclaire's contract is due in 2 years so you'd think Elliott would sign for 2 years and hope that he's won the number 1 job by then and cash in then.

Perhaps that's why he's being slightly overpaid this year and next, to avoid a potential payout in year 3 from a Sens org. POV.

He's not getting $1.3M on a one year deal, that's for sure. The only way he could get a contract with a cap hit of $1.3M is if it covers him being the #1 in year 3 (and beyond). He would be worth Auld money now, except he's RFA with no arbitration, which means he's worth less. So let's take SD's figure of $700K. Let's up it to $750K since we're nice. Then give him a 10% raise in the second year, or $825K. This means $1.575M in the first two years, leaving $2.325M in his third year, as a relatively unproven starter.

Anyone else (beside SD) think that's too high? I do.

As much as I'd like to give him a 3-year, $3M deal I don't think it makes a lot of sense for Elliott. He's better off with a 1 or 2 year deal.

Also, consider that Elliott has one NHL year under his belt, and since
he siged his first contract after he turned 20 (I'm pretty sure he did
-- he's 24 now and played 1 game in 06-07, three years ago) he only has
2 more years to go before arbitration. So if he signs a 3 year
contract he'll give them one year of arbitratiobn eligibility.

No way he signs a $3M/3 year contract.

That's is fine, but lately it hasn't been happening like this. People are posting rumors and have no source to back it up. I have no time to look any deeper than these three topics, but I remember SpezD and I getting into it over a false report not to long ago either.

I blame it on the fact that there is so little news, and such a huge base of Sens fans just desperate to get the Heatley situation sorted out so they know what their team actually looks like this year.

Eklund goes out and has 'sources' who give him info. He's making these rumours up, we're not. We discuss everything that comes up, or we try to.
