Heat on blu-ray. I don't own a blu-ray player, but I would buy one just for that movie alone.

I have about 50 blu-ray movies now, the best ones are definitely Band of Brothers, Generation Kill, Planet earth, Lost and Braveheart. A lot of war movies and TV series.
Live concerts are definitely great too, John Mayer, Led Zepp and Hendrix sound great in HD.

I know I'll probably lose some rep points for saying this, but my "audio system" consists of the speakers on my TV. One day ...

Not sure what my first BR purchase will be. Most likely I'll get the latest two Potter movies and the new Star Trek -- prices at Amazon.com are just too good to pass up, if my sister can re-mail it to me. I'm also probably going to get Lost. And, of course, The Fifth Element for me is like "Brothers in Arms" was for CDs, so I'll probably get that. But that's just me Smile

I was able to get Mad Men season 1 and 2 at amazon.com for 20$ each, crazy. But it was on Black friday.
The picture style and overall feeling of this series is just amazing on bluray.
I just think TV series are the best bang for the buck. Costs 2/3 times a movies, lasts 10 times more.

True. But there are very few TV shows that I want to watch again and again and again. I've seen Firefly four times now (but it's very short); I watched Arrested Development twice (plus another time in reruns). I'm hoping Lost will not disappoint when I re-watch it in a couple of years with my oldest (who'll be 15 by then).

I tried NHL 2k10 last night for the first time. The graphics are not as good as NHL2010, but the gameplay is alright. Might be a cheap alternative to 2010

If you follow my earlier posts you will see that there are $40 and $50 deals available for NHL 2010. I haven't seen NHL2K10 for less than $40.

Well, the PS3 has been set up -- sort of, I'm sure there's more to set up in the 3,446 options menus I *didn't* go into. The boys are playing Little Big Planet right now. NHL10 is next up (my oldest is not a fan, and he gets first dibs). The Wii has been moved to the bedroom TV (my back is not looking forward to lugging the old 32" CRT back from the basement; I'd rather look for a good Boxing Day sale for a nice LCD). The Harmony 880 setup has been reprogrammed to drop the DVD player and Wii (actually I still had it set to GameCube but I never used the Harmony to turn it on/off); HDMI and component inputs swapped (PVR now on component; PS3 on HDMI). All I need is to download the new setup to the 880.

It's been quite a morning. I figure I'll do a little NHL10 with my kid after some turkey.

Can't wait until Boxing Day to look for more blu ray sales Smile I ended up getting myself the Ultimate Matrix blu ray set as a present from my wife (yeah, we've been married long-enough to buy our own Christmas gifts once in a while), so I won't be empty-handed my first night with the PS3. The latest two Potters and Star Trek are on the way from Dallas (they got 2" of snow and it's not even melting -- first time that's happened since the '20s I think).

Merry Christmas everyone.

Just played one period and a bit. I was the Sens and my son was the Caps. Heatley and Comrie? WTH? Lately he'd been playing NHL06 on the GC so the outdated roster was pretty much par for the course. I'll get him to download the updates.

Well, it's better than NHL2K9 was, but it's still very complicated. It would be great if they let the gameplay progress as you are learning. At the start, nothing works but the left and right joysticks (move, shoot). Then add passing; saucer passing. And so on, gradually learning new controls once you've mastered old ones. My son's been playing NHL08 at his friend's house (PS2) and NHL06 at home on the GC. So he's way ahead of me. Not fun playing like that.

For the record, it was 2-0 but Foligno missed on a clear breakaway, and the refs were definitely on Washington's side. Very true-to-life.

actually I bought all 3 from Best Buy during the Black Friday sale for $35 each, otherwise there's no way I would have got all 3 for him.
