D) seeing the powerplay with Heatley, Spezza, Alfie, Kovalev and Karlsson... :drooling:

Do you do it?

No, you don't.

You would do it, if Kovalchuk has made it extremely evident, even public, that he does not want to play there. All of a sudden, a team offering you a prime asset would get cold feet, wondering if Kovie would pull the same Dung on them. He's a real risk.

With Fisher and Kuba, you're getting a top 6 forward and a top 4 d, proven team players.

so do you move a malcontent superstar for two nice, albeit lesser pieces?

Under normal circumstances (i.e. just any year) maybe you do. In this reality though, Heatley has definite reason to perform to the best of his abilities.

- 1/3 of these guys have gone to war with this guy for what will be half a decade when this season is over. That same group went all the way to a Cup Finals loss with him.

- 95% of them have played on the same team as Heatley for a season or more (Leclaire and Karlsson being the ones that haven't)

This group can overcome some initial discomfort and division. Every player other than Heatley wants to help the Sens win. Heatley wants the Sens to help him win. The difference in 09-10 is that Heatley won't wait for the Sens to play well for him to play well. He'll actually try to lead, if only to help himself play for another team (or two)...

Simply based on that knowledge, no GM will trade a star player for less than a star return. If Heatley is still to get traded, it won't be until November and probably not before June.

(oops, pic disappeared, let me download it/upload to dropbox and go from there)
(geez, and now it re-appears and I have two copies in the post. grrr!)

The new hairpiece to replace that SOS-pad laughing stock on his head now?

This guy's head of hair probably makes him jealous of David Letterman.

Also, the A is missing on his jersey.

How good is a powerplay when it can make you drool without Kuba!?!?!

Meatball = spicy

This is Chirp's latest update Facepalm :

Just got an interesting email from a reader who recently attended a Q&A with new Director of Player Personnel Pierre Dorion. Couple interesting notes from that email.

-Mike Comrie is not expected to be back with the team
-Karlsson, Regin and Smith are the three rookies with the best chance of cracking the line up
-Unlikely any other signings would take place until the Heatley situation is resolved

Where is the Diddle update? We're known all of this for MONTHS. Is this guy playing stupid or just plain stupid.

nothing interesting there, just like you said, just a rehash of everything that has been known for the last while. I know getting information from the Sens organization is like trying to get blood from a stone, but don't rehash old crap and say it's an update.

If Murray wants Sykora, I wouldn't wait for the Heatley situation to resolve itself. If he signs a 2 year, 3.5 million deal, we're level with the cap with Karlsson in and Regin and Lee out.

Simply based on the number of players being counted against our cap, I can say with virtual certainty that it will be a complete non-issue when the season starts. We'll have plenty of room.

Which is why I suggest with Sykora that Murray can't really afford to wait around.

rehash is one thing, but passing it off as interesting and new info...some kind of enlightening update...is just pathetic. Time for this guy to confess his ignorance on anything Sens related. He's nothing more than an ordinary fan. I'll take Jam or DW's word on insider info LONG before I'll take Chirps or Garrioches - and they're pretty much the same in terms of info.

Sykora is liable to play 50 games or less this year if he isn't fully healthy. He's an old guy but he's hardly a must have. He wouldn't be a bad signing, but we can do without him. It doesn't make sense for Murray to complicate his cap situation any more at this point. He still has moves that have to be made...

I'm kind of of the belief that Murray will wait until he's had a chance to see the progression of these guys before he trades anyone.

Schubert, Picard, Lee, Donovan, Bass, Smith, arguably Regin - these guys all have their immediate futures up in the air. They all have something to prove and they're all liable to have their spot stolen by somebody else.

I think Murray likes having his options open right now. Best case scenario is that Schubert, Picard, and Donovan all step up and show great progress over the summer - just enough to force the 2-ways down to Bingo.

I like our youth, but I think this lineup (playing well) gives us the best chance to win, with obviously the greatest call-up depth:

Heatley-Spezza-Alfredsson
Winchester-Kelly-Kovalev
Shannon-Fisher-Foligno
Ruutu-Donovan-Neil
(Schubert)

Kuba-Campoli
Phillips-Volchenkov
Picard-Karlsson
(Schubert)

you are probably one of the few that I would see putting Winchester on any line but line 4, he hasn't panned out offensively (yet), but is one hell of a forechecker.

I think it will look pretty similar to that as well. Sucks for Lee.
