Maybe they handed him an Alfredsson jersey and he stripped off the C. Ahhhhh!

So...do you send DH to VanCity for that hypothetical deal?

I haven't read past this, but I need to post an unequivocal: No. We didn't wait all summer to get mediocre players back. Murray is asking for prime talent and prime talent is what we're going to get - whether thats in the form of Dany Heatley or not is up to the other GMs.

You think Bieksa and Burrows are 'mediocre'?

Boy, good thing for you there aren't any Nucks fans on this forum...

Throw in their 1st and I would pull the trigger just to end this saga.

If you could get a legitimate top 6 forward and top 4 d for Heatley, I'd do it. The return is likely to not be more than that anyway. Heater's good, but he's bad news.

Burrows and Bieksa? I'd give BM a pat on the back.

Sigh, if only the Canucks were in a cap position to do it.

Yeah they are mediocre when compared to a player of Heatley's calibre.

Burrows will never put up more than 65 points in the NHL and was lucky to get 50 last year while playing next to two of the more dynamic players in the NHL. I like him. I like his game. He's a player you win with, but he is nowhere near Heatley's calibre.

Bieksa is a monster; again, a player you win with. I like him, too. But he will never be a #1 D-man. You say he "gives the Sens a true top-4 D-man" as though we don't have one... We have 3. We have a very good #2,3, and 4. What we lack is a #1. Bieksa isn't that.

At the start of this game, no one would have thought that return was enough, but now everyone is ready to jump on it. You guys may be getting exasperated, but Bryan Murray didn't wait this long to lower his standards. He expects a prime return for one of the most potent offensive players in the game; a player that is poised for a very big first half. There is no reason he should settle.

Bieksa and Burrows are two players I would have on my team. They just aren't a sufficient enough return for Dany Heatley.

How about this scenario: We're all Thrashers fans and an Ottawa fan comes on board and offers Fisher and Kuba for Kovalchuk.
Do you do it?

No, you don't.

You would do it, if Kovalchuk has made it extremely evident, even public, that he does not want to play there. All of a sudden, a team offering you a prime asset would get cold feet, wondering if Kovie would pull the same Dung on them. He's a real risk.

With Fisher and Kuba, you're getting a top 6 forward and a top 4 d, proven team players.

so do you move a malcontent superstar for two nice, albeit lesser pieces?

Resolution Coming?

It looks as though one way or another, we are quickly heading towards a resolution in the summer drama involving winger Dany Heatley.

Speculation is building that Bryan Murray will set the first day of camp (next Saturday) as the drop dead date for a deal involving Dany Heatley. While Murray has not confirmed it as of yet the thinking is if Heatley is going to show up for camp, he is going to play in Ottawa this season.

While hanging on to Dany is by no means what Senators management was hoping to do, they refuse to give a player of his caliber away. Murray continues to say in the media that he's only talking to one or two teams at this point so it should be interesting to see if anything can get done.

Yesterday was an interesting day on the rumour front. I had two different sources indicate to me that the San Jose Sharks had backed off in their pursuit while late yesterday another email suggested that a deal may be closer than ever with the Sharks. I'll continue to chase down that angle today and see if we can get anything concrete on the San Jose front.

There's more from senschirp on his site. Ahhhhh! Ahhhhh!

I'm done listening to rumours. Its been the biggest waste of time to watch this scenario unfold. I don't care if he's traded or if he comes to camp. All I care about is whether we ice a strong team this year.

As far as this deadline being the day camp opens, isn't that pretty self explanatory to Heatley. Murray specifically stated he wanted to set a date "in the next day or so" so Heatley would know he has to show up to camp. Isn't it illogical to think that Heatley wouldn't know he's expected in camp on the day the Diddle thing starts.

I am officially done with Senschirp as a "source". He has absolutely no idea whats going on in the organization. Even his ability to reason official statements is subpar. F that site.

Whereas I might have checked HB once in a blue moon for fun rumours, I find them absolutely preposterous now - worse than ever. Like...Heatley likes Comrie! So he'll wait to see where he ends up? What the Diddle are you talking about? Are you mad? Comrie means nothing to Heatley.

I find HB on the death throws personally. I doubt he'll be able to maintain that site much longer - it's getting ridiculous (except for you Mark!).

Have to agree with you there cas. I have been one of the guilty following this clusterf&ck since before July 1 with anticipation and bated breath. He's going to Edmonton, no he's not, he's going to San Jose, ahh, no he's not, there's a mystery team interested, no there's not.

Now the only thing that excites me is A) seeing Leclaire play, B) seeing Karlsson hopefully make the team and C)seeing Kovalev play.

That's it

D) seeing the powerplay with Heatley, Spezza, Alfie, Kovalev and Karlsson... :drooling:

Under normal circumstances (i.e. just any year) maybe you do. In this reality though, Heatley has definite reason to perform to the best of his abilities.

- 1/3 of these guys have gone to war with this guy for what will be half a decade when this season is over. That same group went all the way to a Cup Finals loss with him.

- 95% of them have played on the same team as Heatley for a season or more (Leclaire and Karlsson being the ones that haven't)

This group can overcome some initial discomfort and division. Every player other than Heatley wants to help the Sens win. Heatley wants the Sens to help him win. The difference in 09-10 is that Heatley won't wait for the Sens to play well for him to play well. He'll actually try to lead, if only to help himself play for another team (or two)...

Simply based on that knowledge, no GM will trade a star player for less than a star return. If Heatley is still to get traded, it won't be until November and probably not before June.

The new hairpiece to replace that SOS-pad laughing stock on his head now?

This guy's head of hair probably makes him jealous of David Letterman.

Also, the A is missing on his jersey.
