Clutch, I wouldn't ever confuse Mark Spector with Lyle 'Spector' Richardson.

Mr. Spector can write whatever he thinks he needs to do to fill the space in his column on Sportsnet.

Frankly, I've found little of any lasting value in ANYTHING he writes about ANY team.

My opinion on his piece?

BeatingaDeadHorse

And as you know, I have posted more than one article critical of the Chicago Blackhawks, including those by writers in the Chicago press.

But then, there are VERY few writers in the Mainstream Hockey Media I consider worthy of note.

I consider the opinions of the Members of this GM Hockey Forum infinitely more valuable.

Facepalm Well apparently I would. My bad. Anyway it sparked some great discussions right?

Clutchie, don't get me wrong. I'm not getting on your case...I think 'The Situation In Chicago' as you aptly titled it...just as 'The Situation in (Name The Team)' is, and will be...an excellent topic(s) for discussion.

Kudos many times to you for that. :KKK:

But Mark Spector knows jack about what's going in Chicago with the Blackhawks. He has recycled the same stuff we've heard over and over again, without offering ANY insight.

There ARE writers who are taking an in-depth, informed and very critical look at the upcoming situation--a situation which is the result of trying to build a winning team in the age of the salary cap.

I will be monitoring these writers closely, and sharing their inside knowledge and views with our esteemed members.

They include:

  • Tim Sassone, who writes for the Chicago Daily Herald and is the Blackhawks correspondent for The Hockey News
  • Steve Rosenbloom, who writes 'Rosenblog' for the Chicago Tribune
  • Len Ziehm, Hawks writer for the Chicago Sun-Times
  • E.J. Hradek, whose work for ESPN and NHL.com is some of the best hockey commentary anywhere
  • Scott Burnside, of ESPN
  • Al Cimaglia, ESPN's Chicago correspondent
  • John Jaeckel, who has authored the playoff blog for Versus
  • Lyle Richardson, whose SpectorsHockey.net remains, IMHO, the best single site on the business of hockey
I have recently corresponded with Stan Fischler, one of the top hockey writers of all time, whose outstanding work, including many biographies of hockey legends, affirm his reputation going back to the early 1960s.

I am sure you will find my exchange with Stan, and his candid view on the Blackhawks, of interest, and hope to share that with you soon.

Looking forward to an excellent discussion, which has started in the usual spirited fashion.

Thanks everyone!

Im just gonna sum this up. Anyone who thinks the Hawks are worried about the cap is nuts.

1, they are racking in so much cash now with "new" ownership and a young, star filled team, they will have no problem burrying Huet in minors, none.

2, Campbell is a moveable piece that can be dealt no problem. The return wont be equal to the player given, but if it turns out 1 D man has to go, there will be plenty of bidders for Campbell, dont kid yourselves. Even if it's something like a 2nd and a depth guy, it just adds to Chicago's depth. Kieth and Seabrook are the for a long time and can bolster that blueline for a while.

People that are waiting for Chicago to get into a whole mess of cap trouble, like waiting for Henessey to play in Ottawa, keep waiting.
