With Mezie gone, another victim of greed and locker room clean up? Perhaps, but either way, he's gone and now I've been told by a semi-reliable source that Murray is mulling trading Schubert and/or McAmmond... My eyes bugged out a bit when I was first relayed this, as Schubert is extremely flexible in positions he plays, likes to hit, and his salary is a STEAL!! Why move him?!

McAmmond, is a reliable forward. He will grind it out in the corners, but nowhere NEAR as much as before since befalling not one but 2 massive hits to the head in the past, and let's face it, that would slow ANYBODY down.

So, my question to you is, assuming this is legit, if you're Murray, who do you keep? Who should the return be?

Sound off!!

I keep neither to be honest. McAmmond's role is easily filled by other bodies on this team, and Schubert should be a decent trading chip because of the type of player he is. If we could somehow package them up together for a starting goalie that would be nice. I wouldn't mind trading for Backstrom this year.

Schubert 1000 times over. He's 6'3", 240, had 187 (homicide!) hits last year, blocks shots, can play D or F, can man the point in a PP - or he can stand in front of the net, is deceptively fast - is young and is signed to a 880K contract for two more seasons.

McAmmond, while good, has slowed since the two incidents. I can see him regaining his form under Hartsburg, but he's a little redundant on this team with Donovan and the plethora of kids who want a shot.

I definitely think Schubert should be kept over McAmmond based on age, value of contract and his ability to play D and Forward.

I like Schubert best by a long shot -- but if we're looking to get the best return, he's going to get it for us.

Either way, I think McAmmond is probably done with us. I just don't see how we can fit him in with our current roster log-jam.

I voted for both as well, but I am not sure why McAmmond did not register. I think we could get a decent package for both.

I was actually just thinking what kind of a return both McAmmond and Schubert could fetch us.

And as someone mentioned earlier in the chat room, PKC i believe, with Nycholat asking for a trade on at least 3 occasions last year, I wonder if he'll still be here come training camp, or deadline day...?

I still think Murray is pondering something...

It wouldn't surprise me to see Murray buy out McCammond. He's got next to no trade value on the market and his buyout wouldn't be much of a cap hit at all..(anyone know what it might be?).

2/3rds of his salary over two years, or about $289,000 a season for the next two seasons. Not a huge amount, granted, but combined with Emery's buyout, we'd be paying about $700,000 in buyouts for the next 2 seasons.

I think we'd waive him with the hopes of someone else picking him up before we took this step. There are some teams who can use him. Hell, I still really like him and think he's useful -- it's just that we're crowded and need space for guys like Winchester and Bass.

Dean's done & we've only scratched the surface on Schubie's skill. Imagine if he was given a full time d post? Big, cheap contract & piles of reckless abandon??? Short discussion for sure!

Wow, this one was really tough...I really love McAmmond, and i truly think he's coming back full force from his head injuries he suffered last year and the year before. The thing here is, if he gets hit one more time, he's done.

Schubert is very young, not at his prime yet, and he's a good hockey player. He doesn't complain about being moved back and forth from F to D, and he usually does his job well. He is only going to get better, and at the price he's being paid at the moment, he is the guy to keep.

So, Schubert is definitely the man. I will miss McAmmond a lot, he's got a huge heart, and he's a franking great hockey player when healthy.

Great points Stargate.

I'm becoming more and more nervous, as Schubert's name continues to surface in trade musings and whispers... All I have to say is, as much faith as I have in Murray, Bryan, you better know what you're doing...
