I would agree if we were voting for MVP but we're not.
The line is blurred here. Detroit without Lidstrom or Boston without Chara?
The differences between these two elite players are very difficult to quantify.
I don't think the award is about who was most valuable to their team, it's about who was the best defensemen.
I'm generally biased in that regards against offensive defensemen putting up meganumbers and winning it, as I don't think that Mike Green was that good defensively as well to compliment his scoring record.
Which is why I think that Nik Lidstrom will once again win the Norris trophy.
Nik Lidstrom -- 16 G, 43 A, +31, 24:49 TOI/G, 3:55 PP TOI/G, 3:27 SH TOI/G
Zdeno Chara -- 19 G, 31 A, +23, 26:04 TOI/G, 3:46 PP TOI/G, 3:21 SH TOI/G
Mike Green -- 31 G, 42 A, +24, 25:45 TOI/G, 5:22 PP TOI/G, 2:28 SH TOI/G
Quite the numbers there, I'm sure we can all agree. But there's something to be said about who was the best defensemen here as well.
I think the race is between Lidstrom and Chara, and to be honest, either one could have a Norris trophy argued for them. But my opinion is that Lidstrom was once again the best all-around defenseman in the league this year.
