Even if we miss the playoffs (surprise surprise) the Clouston era has thus far been a tremendous success.

We have three capable goaltenders in Leclaire, Elliott and Auld.

In addition to the top line (Heatley and Spezza seem to be hustling much more under Clouston), we've developed another dynamic tandem in FFS. Toss in Mike Comrie, a Peter Regin on the rise and any other top-6 forward Murray may pursue, and our scoring depth may be quite solid next season. Not to mention some agitation in the form of #73 and potentially #25..

Phillips, Kuba, Volchenkov, Campoli are nice to have on the blue-line. Murray's also vocalized a desire to pursue "a defenceman from Florida who wears #4."

Then we've got Erik Karlsson playing 20 minutes a night as an 18 year old in Frolunda's Semi-Final play-off series, Patrick Wiercioch dominating at DU as an 18 year old freshman and Louie Caporusso as a leading Hobey Baker candidate.

Ideally Murray can also use our first and 2 seconds to snag an elite prospect at this draft.

Even if we miss the play-offs, there is much to be excited about IMO. There will be no Peter Schaefer Surre ing in Ottawa.

Tough loss for the Senators...Clouston coached his tail off, Elliott and Shannon played like warriors...as did all the unsung heroes.

But the millionaires need to be there.

Now, the Sens play for pride...and that glimmer of hope.

Granted, I missed a lot of the game with feed problems, but from what I saw and from what others have stated, the big line was there tonight. Spezza was working quite hard defensively and was quite effective as a result (again, from what I saw).

I think we're often quick to blame our losses on #s 15 and 19, when Lee isn't there to criticize, anyway.

I watched the game on TSN2. If the Senators ever needed goals from the money players, they needed them tonight. That's what they pay them for.

Bad penalty by Fisher late led to the Canes' winner.

Alfie, by the way, was solid as always.

Solid as always, but how many goals did he get? You can't say in the same breath that this is a game where they needed a goal from one of the big two yet leave the third one out.

Fisher got the tripping penalty that led to the winning goal, and won just 4 of 13 face offs. I love #12, but to borrow from Torts "Win a goddamned occasional faceoff, Mike!"

I don't want to blame all of this on Fisher, and if he was taking draws against Brind'Amour, no wonder, but I really think he needs to go on the wing. By the way, all those clips they've shown of Spezza and Winchester taking extra draws at the end of practice -- how come I never see Fisher in one of those? I hope it's just coincidence.

Another comparison. The Sens got 2 shots from their D, Carolina got 8.

I f**king hate the Canes.

I could have tolerated this loss if it came at the hands of say Detroit, Boston, SJ or something of that ilk, but the Canes?!?
