They'd be pretty tight against the cap, but man, could you imagine a team with Kiprusoff, Iginla, Heatley, and J-Bo?

No...it would be 30 million tied up in 4 players. I couldn't see how they could compete.

Much like the Rangers next year with Gomez, Drury, Redden, Roszival and Lundqvist making a combined 32 million. That's 5 players, what are you gonna do about filling the other 15 roster spots.

As I said (edited) my original thought was the right one. Bouwmeester only makes 4.875 this year.

Vandermeer, Lombardi, picks and prospects is a fair deal for a rented Bouwmeester.

I dunno 50. They still have guys up front like Rene Bourque, Glencross, Conroy, Langkow, Primeau, and have some good prospects that could step up and play like Backlund, Sutter,etc.

I guess...there's like zero flexibility there, but you might be able to Washington Capital it with a good goalie.

Langkow makes 4.5 million too, so that's 36.5 million of a potentially 50 million dollar cap year after next on 6 players, 14 more needed and you'd have 13.5 million to do it. Maybe, Sutter would earn his $$ big time.

Umm lets see, that seems like an even trade..ottawa needs defense badly and it seems like phaneuf would be perfect he can socre and he sure can hit, and he has the leadership also..but calgary already has iginla,Bertuzzi,and camellerri..so i dont see why they would need heatly but that would be a cool trade

I have been wondering the same thing, just never asked.

I don't think its for Heatley but rather Spezza. As far as I know out here in Calgary there hasn't been any discussions between the 2 teams. But I was thinking about this last night on my way back to Calgary that a Spezza and Lee for Phaneuf+ would make complete sense for both teams at the draft. I think Murray may also look at Leland Irving as a means to address our prospect goalie depth.

Calgary gets the center to play with Iginla plus a prospect while also replacing Cammie who is going elsewhere July 1. Ottawa gets the mean dman they need. Phaneuf and Spezza salaries are fairly close, and Keenan would be able to help Spezza like he did for Joiken.

The biggest problem would be our lack of #1 center. I'm guessing we might be able to sign one via free agency or personally I would like to see Murray acquire Savard out Boston as I am not certain as to who all the UFA's are this year.

He's having a really rough season, and according to some Calgary fans he's not the brightest guy.

Phaneuf's situation is almost identical to Spezza's IMO. Except Phaneuf is far more physical and Spezza has far more hockey sense.
