I think we have all felt that this team needs a spark. A new goalie could be it.
I have stuck by Gerber over the years, but he has regressed even further this year. While Gerber has been better than critics have said, IMO, it is clearly time for a change.
Don't forget that Bryan Murray said in July that he wanted Elliott to go to Bingo at the start of the year and have a stretch of 30 starts. He has had that. Elliott was the player of the month in the AHL and is the starter for the AHL all-star game. What do you think Elliott would sooner do: hang around in Bingo to start a glorified exhibition game or go to the NHL?
One last thought: with Elliott clearly the starter for next year, if the team could get something for Auld, do it. Gerber can back up, he can even be the backup next year (at a huge salary reduction).
