O.k. even though it seems to be a foregone conclusion that Mezie has NO leverage and will probably cave by or by the mid-point of training camp, I thought I'd throw this question out there:
If Mezie sits out, either for a bit or the entire season, besides the idea of Nycholat or Schubert moving to D, is there ANYONE Murray could chase?

And yes, it is SO dead on the Sens News front, Mezie is still top of the list of items to deal with, and yet, there's NO news...

If Mesz sits for the year then get Schneider. He's the perfect stop gap for 1 season IMO.

Agreed. Schneider would be option 1. Option 2 would have to be, I think, Aucoin. Both ANA and CAL need to get these guys off their roster to get their cap situation in line, and I'm guessing that they could be had for relatively cheap because neither team will want salary coming back.

Also good points. I forgot about that angle. Not only would Schnieder be a good addition, as you said, it won't cost us much.

So how does it work? if he doesn't sign we still have his rights and he just has to sit and do nothing for the whole season? can he sign at any point throughout?

He can be signed whenever, but we would acquire Schneider, Boucher or Berard and his salary would go way down (probably to under $2 million). He's being a tool, he better get his head out of his arse soon.

Mesz is an RFA and will be for at least the next three (possibly four) years. The Sens own his NHL rights that whole time and, up until the time he is moved, there's nothing he or anyone can do about it.

If the season begins and he doesn't have a contract, he's officially on hold out. I'm not 100% positive, but I believe is there a deadline to sign him to a contract before he must sit out the whole year -- I think it's around Jan. 1st.

Don't worry too much, tho' -- I think it highly likely that he'll sign just before or during training camp. From what I understand, it's pretty common to have unsigned RFAs at this point in the season, but highly uncommon to have RFAs sitting out by the beginning of the season.

Btw, does anyone have any idea when our training camp opens?

I believe training camp usually starts around the second week of September for NHL teams.

I think it wouldbe along the same lines as Forsberg last season where he had to be signed by the trade deadline in order to be eligible to play in the playoffs. Or like where Winchester he signed after the deadline but was not eligible to play in the playoffs. So I guess its up to Mez to decide.
