Believe it or not, Facebook.com. You're not playing with real money, of course, but since you said "free" I figure that's what you meant. You can set up a private room so you can play with your buddies (expecially good when friends move away). The only complaint I heard (for the private room) is that the timer is too fast. It's one thing to speed up the action at an anonymous table, but when you'r eplaying with friends you tend to want to chat, trash-talk. It would be great if they could give you the option of disbling the timer.

* If you let the timer run down it used to be that you automatically fold, but now it kicks you off the table.

I prefer pokerstars for free poker.

Not a big fan of the free variety. No one thinks twice before making a call. It's all-in every hand more or less.

HA! Yeah, one of the draw backs when you're not playing with real money. Everyone grows big balls and goes all in all the time. If you lose, whatever, just go re-up.

Yeah pokerstars is good.. They sometimes have freeroll's which can be good... If you make it through the first 5 or 10 minutes or so, you'll get through the people who just go all in right away...

It takes all strategy out of it and it becomes a completley different game.

Real Texas Hold'Em is about playing the man, not the cards. You can't do that when a huge pre-flop raise has 7-9s or K-2s getting through because "they were suited!".

But then, when I go to play free poker, I'm just in for some mindless card playing, and I know what to expect.

I am partial to Pokerstars for their abundance of freeroll tourneys, but for play $$, I prefer FullTilt.

and Matt, I couldn't agree more. Maybe I'm the only idiot left who plays in play money games or tables with the intention of playing like I had REAL $$ on the line, as it's a sure-fire way to improve my game; but alas, there;s always idiots who will call my re-raise with 8-3 off suit when I'm holding pocket cowboys! AND they'll SUCK out EVERYTIME!!

The REAL fun is playing home games or tourneys in casinos. that's where you can REALLY hone your skills, but if you're not careful, you CAN lose your shirt! LOL

I started playing on Pokerstars beta site and ended up selling my playchips (12 million of them) for $120. I got up to about $1300 then got stupid and started playing expensive stuff. I eventually cashed out at $400 and stopped playing as it was consuming way too much time. Not bad for $0 invested though.
