Phillipe Boucher has been traded to Pitsburgh for Sydor.

I...don't understand, but Boucher's had a terrible past year and a bit.

I'm jealous. What a steal, even if he doesn't work out as hoped. I wish we would have been in on that one. I would have sent Schubert for him in a heartbeat.

Sydor and Modano and Hull all go way back. They want to re-unite that winning feeling I guess.

Boucher's okay, but he had a filthy year last year and had 3 assists this year. He was probably gonna be a way less productive Kuba. Plus he's injury prone.

For the Pens it's perfect. Just perfect. For us...I hold out hope for two D-men who are a heck of a lot quicker than Boucher and can move the puck up the ice a little better if possible. He's got a wicked shot though...and a righty...

Meh, let's see who Murray's eyeing this coming week.

Oh, I agree Boucher's not what he was... but give up a spare part like Sydor to take a chance? Why not. I would.

I would have given up a spare part (Schubert) to give Boucher a shot.

Darn, that's a great trade for Pittsburgh. Sydor was worthless for them IMO, and worthless for Dallas as well.

You're right though, Kuba and Boucher are essentially the same player, and right now we don't need another Kuba, but a smaller, faster defenceman (Zubov Wink ).

Still, at Boucher's salary I would have taken him.

Pittsburgh's D (when healthy) now looks pretty solid with Gonchar, Letang, Whitney, Boucher, Orpik, Goligoski and Eaton.

They just need to find somebody to play with Sid (Gaborik, but he's injured), and I think they're right back at the top of the conference with Montreal.

They can trade a D-man at some point for that winger too. Yeah, it's definitely a strong move for the Pens.

What do you think they could turn Whitney into? i.e. what kind of winger could they get for Crosby by sending Whitney elsewhere? And do you think it would be a bad idea for them to give up on Whitney after suffering through his growing pains?

Good trade for Pittsburgh. Sydor was doing NOTHING for them, and while Boucher is a risk, it's not costing them anything to take it.

Maybe it's me, but I don't think PIT has any interest in moving Whitney. Gonchar's contract is up at the end of next year, and I doubt they'll be able to afford both he and Staal. To me, Whitney is their #1 D / PP QB going forward for the next couple of years, with one of Letang or Goligoski at his side.

I think PIT's recent struggles to score goals on the PP has taught them how valuable a guy like Gonchar or Whitney is to the team.

I agree. I'd even say that Jordan Staal might be traded to bring in a winger for Crosby.

It would have to be the right trade for Pittsburgh. He's their version of Mike Fisher. Too good for third line duty, but not quite there for regular second line time. It doesn't help that he's third in a depth chart behind Crosby and Malkin.

I wouldn't think they'd be in a rush to move him, but if the right deal came along, I think it could be done.

Thats what I figured...The reason I asked is because of the value a guy like this has in the current trade market. He's signed to a solid contract for the next 5 years and has the potential to be an all-star within the life of that contract.
They have a strong goalie and some decent young puck movers coming up. Imo they would benefit more from giving Crosby someone to play with...I mean, they've got the guy playing with Talbot and/or Cooke half the time...
How about putting Crosby on Staal's wing? Think they'd ever try that?
I mean, he's their granchise...he should be able to accomodate them in w/e way necessary...

Love this trade so much. Heck it could even benefit OTT in that
there will be a wealth of puck moving defenceman available from Pitts
when Gonch and Whitney are both back.
