On a side note, I hope to see Puempel with Brass/Ryan and Smith down with Pageau at some point in the near future

Unless Smith really poops the bed, I don't think we'll see Puempel anywhere other than the press box, the 4th line, and then on the waiver wire.

I love how people "hope" to see Smith taken off that line. I personally hope he picks up where he left off last year.

Who would you put in his place?

Don't take it to mean that I want Smith to fail, I think he just fits better with JGP, and so does Guy Boucher so up yours SSF
Also take it to also mean that Puempel finds his game otherwise that 2011 first round draft ain't looking too good

Personally it's not that I want smith to fail, it's more that his shot% from last year was ridiculous and I highly doubt we'll see anything near that type of production this year. Better putting someone there who has a higher possibility to succeed. Even puempel who seems to work better off of better players.

I don't see how that's going to happen after a few hat tricks from Young Smitty.
I agree that both dzingel and Varone could succeed but puempel might also. He's not the type of player to succeed with 4rth liners. He doesn't create much offence on his own. He's the kind to capitalize on chances. He needs good players to feed him those. If he is going to work it's going to have to be in the top 6. Possibly with pageau.tim1_2 wrote:Flo The Action wrote:Hoff-Machine wrote:SeawaySensFan wrote:tim1_2 wrote:Hoff-Machine wrote:can't believe this day is finally here! Smith is the most likely to succeed in that spot from our available options. The only guys that could maybe move above Smith is Varone or Dzingel, and those are both long shots. Puempel has proven nothing at the NHL level. Varone showed more in his few preseason games than Puempel has shown in years at the pro level.

Look at what Varone did in preseason playing on random lines. Puempel has never come close to that at any point in time. If you need other good players around you to do anything, then you're probably not that good yourself. I think he'll get in some games before he gets waived, but I see zero reason to put him on either of the top two lines. I imagine once we see Lazar recalled in a couple weeks, we'll see Puempel going the other way.
