They have the ability to raise the limit the NHL sets by 5%. It ensures growth and is written into the CBA. I believe they've used it every year.

They use the escalator and the NHL uses escrow. Escrow has been as high as 15%, IIRC. So 15% of the players' salaries go to the escrow fund, and then when they final numbers are crunched they figure out exactly how much 50% of HRR is and then players will get most or all of that 15% back. If HRR drops unexpectedly then some or all of that escrow money will go back to the owners.

Lebrun reporting that Lucic said (via text message) he's headed for free agency.

Also Habs have been getting more calls about P.K. That rumor just won't go away.

You mean Vancouver? His home town?

Wasn't the media, it was Newport Sports Management. They managed to get Rob Zamuner on the World Cup team back in the day.

Exactly. World Cup Gold, 100 points regular season (10 short-handed), +40, Cup winning goal, and a Tour-de-Price.

Out of all that I only really care about the cup winning goal.

Might be interesting. They have a lot of work to do, but if they can sign Lucic and Eriksson, draft 4th or whatever it is and make a play to improve their d, they can be competitive

Or Edmonton. He's been linked to both. I expect him to sign with one of those two.

It's the chichi connection in Edmonton or the home town homecoming.

One: I was not aware of that. Two: what difference does it make? My point was it was the sports agency that pushed hard for this. Pierre (and Dreger and the rest) can say what they want about how wonderful a season Doughty had (none of the stats bear that out, by the way -- regular stats, advanced stats, defensive stats, possession stats, TOI -- some argue that Muzzin has been the Kings' best D-man) but it remains a fact that the groundswell of support for Doiughty began well before the midpoint of the season. After Karlsson got his 81st point (passing Lidstrom) he wrote this:

Karlsson's defensive blunders have drawn more attention this season as he's being scrutinized based on past success, more than ever

Essentially it means that, because Karlsson has already won it in the past, "they" were focusing on his faults more than his strengths.

Pierre thinks it will be Edmonton.
