The 27-year-old Thompson played in three NHL games with the Devils last season. The 6-foot, 200-pound native of Methuen, Mass., recorded 13-22-35 in 56 games with the Albany Devils (AHL) in 2015-16. He added 3-1-4 in 10 playoff games.
Am I missing something here? Seems like two average joes for a second round pick and cap relief.

They people in the 'know' are saying Florida is about to do something big.  Perhaps a long term deal with Trochek and looking to re-sign Campbell, then some other moves that are nothing but rumours.

Florida is close to being very, very good, they might go 'all in' soon, I guess.
Yeah but what kind of cap space are they looking at? Stamkos cap space? They are already pretty deep at center. Who else could they be going after... I think they would be right to try and take advantage of their window. They will have to get someone to replace jagr

Didn't they just re-sign Jagr for 4.5 million?

Yes but for one year. I mean, if something comes along where they can bring in a top line player...

Oh yeah, they'll add someone big. Stamkos is actually a nice fit, they could terrorize the Atlantic.

On the other side, it looks like the Devils are content to add cap filler and continue to suck?

Depending what contracts look like by then but could very well be. Uncle gene will surely protest but I hope they lock him up for that process.

Best result with karlsson has been a first round win so we would be fine if he walks

What Cussing planet are you on?

Yeah ok, one player can't carry a whole team on its back but we wouldn't be fine. He's a huge part of this team. And it would leave a gaping hole on defense.

Obviously he's a huge part of the team but the team would do something to fix it if he left. Just like how our previous franchise player left. Players retire and move on all the time. The sens would be fine in the long run. It's not like we'd be losing a player who brought us a Stanley cup

He needs to make sure we make the playoffs and make sure we win a couple of rounds, I agree. Winning is everything. Without a cup, your legacy is Meh.

Really? Alfredsson's legacy is meh?
I agree that he would be regarded far bigger than his God statue had he won us a cup. But he still will haves lasting legacy that far outshines so many.

We didn't lose Alfie when he was a first liner and a 30-40 goal guy who did it all.
We lost him when he was a complementary 2nd line winger who was set to have a reduced importance on the team. I doubt that's what we expect from EK when his current contract expires.
