Man i hope Drouin still wants out when this all comes to an end and that we go after him!

The lightning blew their chance. They will decline next year after losing their best player

Pittsburgh was the best team coming into the playoffs in the east but it's still sad that ottawa isn't that much worse than them on paper. We could have done damage if they made it

Nah, the Lightning will be fine without Stamkos.

They'll be fine if they sell high on bishop. You gotta believe his injury antics are getting on his teammates nerves

But they will have a large hole at centre and a weak d after Hedman. They will miss the playoffs if they don't make a move imo. They were not even great this year, and got dominated in the final

That's a big issue with bishop. I'd like to have him but who knows how good or how far they can go with him being injured at integral times. I think you're right, they trade him and cash in this summer.

It wasn't Bishop's injury that sunk them.  Having 10 shots on goal through 2 while giving up 30 is the problem.  I didn't even see the last 10 minutes after seeing the ferocious forecheck the Pens were throwing at them.  If Stralman was 100% would have made a huge difference.  Hedman looked tired and Stralman looked like someone rehabbing from a broken leg.  Then you have Nesterov and Koekkoe who are too young but will improve.

They may become a better team without Stamkos.

how can you say that? Pittsburgh has Kessel on their 3rd line not to mention two of the best centers in the league! Ottawa is significantly worse on paper - it's not even close. If the Sens didn't have Karlsson they'd have been bottom 5 in the league for sure.

That's a pointless thing to say. Remove a superstar from any team and they'd be a lot worse. Karlsson is a part of our team just like Crosby is. Remove Crosby and Pittsburgh doesn't make the playoffs this year, without a doubt. They would have been bottom 5 or 10. He was the only reason they were competitive this season. Malkin is doing nothing for them. Kessel was average all season. He was in their Top 6 all year so no he is not a third liner for them even if that's where they slotted him right now.

Ottawa is not far from Pittsburgh at all. They have better D (just poor coaching), probably better goaltending, and more or equal offensive depth when all is said and done. Pittsburgh only has 4 forwards and 1 D who can really provide offense. Ottawa scored 9 less goals than Pittsburgh this season without having a #1 centre for the majority of the year. Ottawa has a way better Top 4 now with Phaneuf in the fold, something Pittsburgh can't match.

I really like Pittsburgh but they are not a truly dominant team. They are riding high after a coaching change just like Ottawa did. There really isn't anyone who is so dominant and unbeatable in today's NHL and that's why Ottawa can make it far as soon as next year.

On the flip side, Ottawa could also miss the playoffs again next year. All it'll take is an injury or two.

Dorion's  going to do at least one major thing this off season and I'll wager it'll involve Hoff or ZBad. I'm not going to make any sort of predictions until I know what the roster will look like.

Hoffman will be re-signed (as will Ceci). Dorion went out of his way to mention that Hoffman had a difficult relationship with Cameron -- this is after he fired Cameron and replaced him with the guy who coached Hoffman in the minors.

Other than these two signings I don't expect anything except for some depth moves -- a veteran D-man, a 4th line center who is good at faceoffs, a backup goalie for Bingo who can fill-in as a backup here if when Anderson gets injured.

Or White, Chabot, 12OV. Not Hoffman I would imagine, but ZBad could be in play too. He needs to make a big move, put a stamp on the team and take them to the next level.

I'll be very surprised if there's any BIG move. Maybe some small ones and bringing in some depth but I doubt we end up filling the spots we all have been talking about. There likely won't be an upgrade on the top two C and probably no top LW brought in.
We will probably go after a cheap 3rd line RW and bottom D pair guy.

I think Dorion has drunken the Boucher kool-aid that he's cooked up thinking new coaching will make us a lot better.
We'll likely be fighting for a spot the 7 and 8th playoff spot next season.

The more I think about Eriksson, the more nervous I would be about a 5 year extension. It's only downhill for a 30 year old in this NHL, so I think if Dorion wants to do something, it'll have to be via trade.

I'm a HUGE fan of Peter Gabriel era Genesis and he dressed up a lot in concerts.

The line on the avatar is from a lyric:

"The Knife"

For Those that Trespass against us

Tell me my life is about to begin
Tell me that I am a hero,
Promise me all of your violent dreams
Light up your body with anger.
Now, in this ugly world
it is time to destroy all this evil.
Now, when I give the word
get ready to fight for your freedom
Now -

Stand up and fight, for you know we are right
We must strike at the lies
That have spread like disease through our minds.
Soon we'll have power, every soldier will rest
And we'll spread out our kindness
To all who our love now deserve.
Some of you are going to die -
Martyrs of course to the freedom that I shall provide.

I'll give you the names of those you must kill,
All must die with their children.
Carry their heads to the palace of old,
Hang them high, let the blood flow.
Now, in this ugly world
break all the chains around us,
Now, the crusade has begun
give us a land fit for heroes,

We are only wanting freedom
We are only wanting freedom
We are only wanting freedom
We are only wanting freedom ("Freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom...")
We are only wanting freedom ("Things are getting out of control here today")
We are only wanting freedom ("OK men - fire over their heads!")
We are only wanting freedom

--- WE HAVE WON ---

Some of you are going to die,
Martyrs of course to the freedom that I shall provide.

I'd be fine with 5 years 30 million.
Yup the last couple of years might be iffy but maybe they won't. There's enough guys out there that say plenty productive till 35. And who knows how much 6 mill a year will buy you in 4 years in terms of production. Cap will keep rising. Contracts will keep getting bigger.

I think it's a pretty major risk, but I guess they could offset the risk by allowing for a limited NTC. It's difficult to say. I think you'll find that soon GMs will really shy away from giving contracts that extend past 33 - and stand by it.
