yeah. i think you have to gauge what interest there is for smith. personally i'd prefer moving him so that we can see what the kids can do. i'm not i really worry about making the playoffs this year. i think it will be a real tough go to make it and if we did we'd likely not make a dent. but i would admit that trading smith now isn't sending an amazing message to the dressing room. there is no way i see a situation where smith is with the sens past the summer. you want to move him in the best possible deal. especially if he can be packaged. Ogle is right, i don't see a world where we would extend him a raise and worst case scenario he's having a career year and we have him in the line-up taking someone more deserving spot. how does anyone not see a fourth line with nick paul and lazar and neil? smith is not a winger on this team long term. no way. plus whith white coming in and likely another LW with macarthur coming back next year you tell me where smith fits in?where?

Haha. Here we go again with Lazar.

He's been good.   Can't you admit it?   So has Ceci.

Ceci has benefited greatly from the addition of Phaneuf. As most of us, here, predicted.

Lazar has been playing with more confidence, of late. But over the whole season I don't think he has shown very much until recently.

It wasn't stupid earlier when the sens were free falling in the standings, losing to columbus and what not. What if we lose the next two games? At some point you throw in the towel and realize what happened last season isn't going to happen again, but now's not the time.

Either way, 15 goals is a big accomplishment. You're now getting to the point that keeping him is better than trading him unless it's something you can't refuse. His value at this point wouldn't diminish even in the off season if he does need to be traded.

No, the time to move him will be in the off-season after he's scored 20 goals and, hopefully, also produced something in a playoff series.

An upgrade is never going to have a negative impact on the room, IMO. If they moved Smith in a package for an obvious upgrade, I think that would send a positive message.

Murray emphatically said that Smith is going nowhere only minutes ago...

We were talking about how Smith could bring in a 2nd rounder. You don't upgrade on the 4th line, you move out players with $2M+ salaries to make room for your prospects.

Ah. I thought we were talking about using him in a package, which is all that makes sense to me if they're trading him right now.

Another goal last night. He'd definitely fetch a 2nd rounder now (maybe even a first if Chicago hadn't already made all of their moves -- but that's likely to be a 25-30 pick anyway). Of course where they are now he's not being moved at the deadline. He still might go at the draft.

You have to consider the depth chart. Hoff could be on his way out and mac is a huge question mark. I wouldn't trade Smith. Worst case you have a really good 4th line and carry neil as the extra forward.

I'd rather move hoff for a legit LW

Whenever you can make a good move to trade smith you do it. I don't see how he ever reaches a better value than now.he is not a goal scoring machine and will likely regress in future Years. The problem is he'll be getting a raise. One that is hard to swallow for a guy likely to be on the fourth line. He'll end up being an anchor for this gem if resigned. Mark my words.

Drouin shoots left. But completely unproven. Eriksson is another leftie, though.

It will be really hard to move him now because they are still in a playoff race. I also don't think his value will dip between the deadline and draft day because of his past playoff "success".

Then I would move him at the draft. You don't start the year with smith.

Agreed. I doubt he can sustain his current scoring (and "doubt" is nowhere near strong-enough) pace so his best place is still as the 4C. We have plenty of 3/4C candidates, and if we can parlay Smith+Wiercioch+Pick+ into some left-side scoring help that would be best for the team, going forward.
