And never again should wiercioch be in instead of Wideman

See that's what I mean about bringing up some kids.

He should trade him because this won't likely last, but man it's quite the tease.  Maybe he finally just got comfortable on the wing, Something Mr. Underwood could never do.

I don't think it's a tease, just an improvement. Again, he's scored 13 and 14 before so it's not a stretch for him to hit a little more than that with a little improvement and better linemates. And like you say, the versatility is a big bonus.

Sure, I'd trade him but not for a pick that may or may not pan out in 2 - 3 years. In a package to get a Top 2 C for sure though. You really need something tangible or else forget it.

The way Smith is going right now trading him at the deadline would likely affect the room in a very negative way. Only way that happens is if they lose ground in the next couple of games and not get any closer. Right now they are not "sellers"; not quite sure they are "buyers" either, but still.

No, the time to move him will be in the off-season after he's scored 20 goals and, hopefully, also produced something in a playoff series.

Anderson was very good again but in all honesty he did not face a lot of really difficult chances. The Sens were in command of the game pretty much from start to finish. Any time there was a bad rebound someone in white was always there first. That's a *huge* change from previous games. The Oilers are really just very, very terrible. Let's hope the Canucks are just as bad.

Nick Paul looks a lot like... Jason York.

With Turris and ZBad not doing great jobs at C right now, it's a miracle we're winning games. It's obviously affected Ryan and Hoffman.

I guess as long as Karlsson, Phaneuf, Smith, and Anderson continue carrying the team, we're fine..?!

Ryan has some really nice plays out there but no-one to dish to. Karlsson's gotta get back on his horse if he wants to finish top-three in scoring Smile I thought he actually had a good game, defensively.

And, speaking of defense:

Expect the Senators to announce an extension for dman Chris Wideman this morning. He played 13:56 against the Oilers last night.

He's been good. Can't you admit it? So has Ceci.

I'm actually surprised Lazar might hit 20 pts. this season. Well done.

Trading Smith is ridiculously stupid. You need to think harder if you think that is a good idea.

I am now thinking that dealing him at the deadline is not the best asset management. If he finishes the year playing like he has, he would be a real nice deal sweetener to obtain a top 6 centre.

The problem with holding on to him for too long is after next season he is a UFA, he is not a top 6 player and after next season he will get paid too much for a bottom 6 player.

I'm starting to think you live and die with Smith. If he regresses again, what can you do, but he's looking good as a 3rd liner.

Yes he is right now at his current price. We need to be looking out 2-4 years when we can compete for a cup if we address the biggest issues. We have a nice top 4 now, the 3rd pairing is locked up and dirt cheap, we have added some speed and youth to the bottom six, goaltending will nd to be addressed in a couple years but is is good enough for now. The biggest issue remaining is adding to the top 6, like Murray has been saying for years. Murray has freed up cash and I truly believe there is a 6M ish acquisition coming this summer with the usual disclaimer of "unless we win the draft lottery).

yeah. i think you have to gauge what interest there is for smith. personally i'd prefer moving him so that we can see what the kids can do. i'm not i really worry about making the playoffs this year. i think it will be a real tough go to make it and if we did we'd likely not make a dent. but i would admit that trading smith now isn't sending an amazing message to the dressing room. there is no way i see a situation where smith is with the sens past the summer. you want to move him in the best possible deal. especially if he can be packaged. Ogle is right, i don't see a world where we would extend him a raise and worst case scenario he's having a career year and we have him in the line-up taking someone more deserving spot. how does anyone not see a fourth line with nick paul and lazar and neil? smith is not a winger on this team long term. no way. plus whith white coming in and likely another LW with macarthur coming back next year you tell me where smith fits in?where?

Ceci has benefited greatly from the addition of Phaneuf. As most of us, here, predicted.

Lazar has been playing with more confidence, of late. But over the whole season I don't think he has shown very much until recently.

It wasn't stupid earlier when the sens were free falling in the standings, losing to columbus and what not. What if we lose the next two games? At some point you throw in the towel and realize what happened last season isn't going to happen again, but now's not the time.

Either way, 15 goals is a big accomplishment. You're now getting to the point that keeping him is better than trading him unless it's something you can't refuse. His value at this point wouldn't diminish even in the off season if he does need to be traded.
