To be fair, his torrid pace he was on earlier in the season has come down by a fair bit. What looked like a sure bet to score 40 goals might be in tough just to get to 30.

That said, I think he'll get there and will be well over 50 points. Not worth $6M, and would barely be worth $5M.

What did the last 30 goal guy get on the open market? Id guess it's nearer to 6

I don't know, these days none of them make it to UFA status.

I'm looking at James Neal as a comparable. $5M on the dot.

Im on mobile, but that seems like a while ago and probably equates to 5.5 now, right?

With the cap presumably going down, hopefully not. But yeah thereabouts you could say. Plus James Neal was much more proven. We'll see in the end, but that's the guy i would compare closely to Mike Hoffman.

Cap was $64.3M when Neal got his contract; it's around $74.5M next year, so Neal's $5M would become $5.79M. Neal had seasons of 24/27/21/40 goals so, yes, much longer resume.

On the other hand, Neal was playing on better teams -- he was 2nd on the team in goals (except the 21-goal campaign when he was injured). Hoffman is more valuable to the Sens in this respect because he has led the team in scoring the past two seasons.
