Ya, i've been gunning for spezza for years, waiting to see some signs of maturity. there has been times in the last couple of years where he's shown that maybe but now it's just a wrong. i'm not sure, maybe he doesn't even understand what needs to be done. the one thing we can see though is that it's not looking like he will put it together, he's looking at the down side of his career and we better act fast in parting ways before he becomes even less valuable.

This is ridiculous. It's been 20 games.

Seriously. Of course he isn't excellent at the job yet, he's barely had time to figure it out.

He's been in Ottawa for more than a decade and part of the leadership group for a while. His game hasn't changed in 10 years, a little more mature but still plays the exact same way.

For all we know being part of the leadership group simply meant nodding your head every time Alfie spoke.

I agree with that too. There has to be something in your game where it says "lets go guys, watch this". Big hit, big play, something. Look at last game vs the Bruins, the play where I said to myself "wow, Spezza is on" was that back check, after that he was unreal. Sadly that happens about 25% of the time and the team is coming out flat every single night.

well this is it isn't it. Alfie might of not talked much but he became a successful captain when his play dictated how important were the games. the guys were probably embarrassed when their captain was out there trying everything and it gave them vigour to go all out.

I don't care if spezza is vocal or not, if he's out there not pushing it as much as the best guy on the ice it's not sending the right message. it's do as i say not as i do, practice what you preach. words are empty without action. take whatever cliche you want, it's so important for a leader to take the reign of a situation and show the players how important it is.

it's not about 20 games. he's served as an assistant for long enough, he's played the game for long enough. if he hasn't figured it out it might not happen at all. could he turn it around? maybe, chances are by his record... probably not.

No, not really. His game has changed quite a bit. How often do you see him do a drop pass at the blue line without looking? Biggest change has been his speed, and that's primarily this year.

He still makes awful turn overs but w/e, besides the point. His game is still lazy, fairly immature, and I would say that assertive isn't a word I would use to describe his game either. To me he is exactly what's wrong with the current team. Is it on him entirely? No, but I think he's just the underlying problem. We'll see what they do with him if the Sens are dead in the water come Feb/March.

If at the deadline the Sens are out of it and they are looking like they look now... hopefully NYR is right in the thick of it because they have some pieces that would be a nice add.

A move like this...

Spezza & Wiercioch
