Poll on the score.ca has Ottawa as one of the top 5 least desirable places for UFA's to sign.

Is it really a poll? It thought it was a DBG-like blog.

The Ottawa Senators have a chance to be a good hockey team in the near future. Other things I find attractive about playing there:

Doesn't look like a poll at all, just some guy's opinion, based on, well, as you can see by the quoted part above, not very much. They have a "chance" to be a good team? How about they have the best defenseman and goalie in the league, coached by the best coach. With injuries to its top goalie, #1 center, the defenseman and goalie mentioned earlier (plus Cowen), and their top goal scorer from the previous year, they still managed to improve from the previous season i their post-season seed, and even won a series. And now they added a perennial 30 goal scorer while losing a 40+ player who guessed they weren't good enough. I know I'm biased; does the guy who wrote the article know he is stupid?

It's not a poll, it's Justin Bourne's blog. He lives in Toronto.

Bourne? Doesn't he have amnesia? Or is that Matt Damon?

I can help him figure it out: the elbow smells less.

I think chances of winning a Cup with the team would be the most important point for most players. Money would be a factor as well. Not everyone cares about the city itself that much. Ottawa may not be exciting but it's not a war zone or a dump either.

If the Sens are a contending team and word spreads that it's a great organization, players WILL want to play here. Not all of them but probably a significant amount. MacLean and Murray mentioned they've gotten significant interest this off-season.

Funny how they mention Toronto at #7, I haven't seen any big FA signings there in a long time. Mostly because the Leafs have been a joke the last decade.

"They" is a blogger from Toronto. Somehow he feels entitled to misrepresent all the free agents in the NHL.

Yeah. Apparently we're now considered an attractive place to sign. Murray mentioned it several times and we were on the short list firbonevof the top UFAs. What is this guy basing his opinion on? I mean...what a bloody waste of time for Sportsnet to even carry an article written by 'some dude'.

Relax.

Also, you're buying in to the Murray PR-spin machine a little too much.

I agree that signing big-name UFAs doesn't always end up being a good thing, but what big name free agent have we signed recently? Although we do have it on the record that at least one big name superstar wouldn't waive his NTC to come here.

We won't be signing any big-name UFAs other than the ones we will re-sign (all of them). We don't need to.

Just stop cheering for the Sens Tim. Save yourself the trouble.

Cheering for the team and blindly believing that management and ownership are doing everything they can to win a Stanley Cup are two different things.

I love the team, which is why I find it incredibly frustrating that it is poorly run from a business standpoint, and now the owner has said (and made it clear with actions) that he is unwilling to spend dough on it.

Maybe in a couple years this all changes, but if you listen to Melnyk lately, it's pretty clear we're a cap-floor team.

Seeing the stupid contracts being handed out in July I am glad we don't participate. Who wants to be commit to guys like Horton or Clarkson for 7 years???

Most of these big signings turn out to be disasters down the road.

We're a smaller market team. There's only so much we can do, especially if the owner isn't as rich as he used to be.

Any business would love to achieve success/profits while spending the lowest cost. Our current formula is working, so why would he change it at the moment?

Go look at the San Antonio Spurs and their success over the years. Low cost, high success team.
