I'm sure he isn't serious. Cowen will get $2M+ without question.
I am dead serious.  Weircioch has played a grand total of 50 NHL games and has no arbitration rights.  Cowen has a whopping 90 NHL games and 3 AHL games and another 27 combined playoff games, which means he has a total of 120 professional games and people want to pay him 3.5M coming off his second major injury.  I like the 2 guys, but people here act like John Ferguson JR.  It's ridiculous.  Let the system work for you, no arb rights and nothing proving as a pro yet earns you about 10% raise in my books.  Let them cash in on their 3rd contracts.

If you want to turn this into an argument between $3.5M or anything approaching Hamonic, and $2.5M, then fine, let's do that, but you'll find that most of us no-longer think he will be getting that money.  As you said, he's got no arbitration rights.

However you said give him $1.25M x 2.   As for Wiercioch, I think you are way off base if you think he'd get a slight increase on his QO.  0.5 PPG rookie D-man on a team in the bottom five in the league in G/G.
Weircioch has played 3 months of NHL hockey, only a GM who wants to be fired would say that is a fair sample size to base a future contract on.

What a silly thing to say. He needs a new contract. They have nothing other than this sample size on which to base the new contract. What should they do? Ask him to play for free for a few years so that they really know what they're getting?
Either a 1 or 2 year contract with a 10% raise. I don't know why people think he should earn 1.5M or something ridiculous like that.

Fun with numbers.
Not a comparable when you take into account that Smith was arbitration eligible and Wiercioch is not.

Bar set for Wiercioch? RT @DarrenDreger DET avoids arbitration with Brendan Smith. They agree to a 2 year deal. $1.25 mil and $1.275 mil.

Sounds about right.

I'd say $1.5 x 2, maybe even more if they can still do performance based bonuses.
No bonuses allowed except on ELCs and 35+ 1 year deals.

Wiercioch I can see making 1.2, that's not too much to pay for a kid who was at close to a 40 point pace in his first season.

I can almost buy what you're selling here. 1 year, 1 million might be what the Sens decide to do, but it means re-assessing again next year, which might be tough if he ends up having a monster season.

Jake Muzzin just got 2 x 1M from the Kings. I would bet Wiercioch gets either 1 x 900K-1M or 2 years at about 2.1M.

I'd buy that. 2 years at $2-2.5 makes sense for PW. I still think Cowen will get something that range per year, though. We'll see.

Again, Muzzin -- 17 points in 56 games; Wiercioch -- 21 in 50. Ottawa scored 15% less than LA.

Muzzin's actually a decent comparable. You seem to think hat anyone without an identical stats sheet isn't worthy of comparison, but that isn't the case. Comparisons deal with the similar, not the same.

Not at all. Muzzin is a good comparable. Very similar number of games played, offensive-minded defenseman, not overly physical. Wiercioch's offensive stats are a little better. When you throw in the team comparison (Stanley Cup champs versus one of the youngest teams in the league, top-10 in league scoring versus bottom -5), then it's easy to see how Wiercioch's numbers are more impressive. I'm not saying he's going to get much more, I'm saying that his agent can rightfully argue -- and back up with stats -- that he deserves more.

It's always nice to hear when people realize they've been a Richard their whole life and make amends.

I gave you the Cole's Notes version. He was a jerk. Now he's trying to be normal, with varying degrees of success.

The guy was adopted, then his parents divorce before he turns 10 then he moves every few months. That kind of stuff diddles up your childhood most of the time.

Fair enough. I don't mind him on the Team anyway, so good that he's turned his life around.
