Wow, 22 games -- that's probably less than an hour's worth of ice time -- away from a $360M pension. He'd definitely play for league minimum. Trouble is, that may still be too much.

Frankly, I think it's extremely sad that he might miss out on his pension. He did what he was asked -- played with truculence. I don't know, maybe pension eligibility should count games missed on IR? Guys like Orr aren't usually known for their longevity, especially with what they put their bodies through. Like it or not, there is only one reason that the NHL has not gotten rid of fighting -- it sells.

I think Burke is doing this to give him a chance to get picked up by another team and play somewhere else. He was not playing for the Leafs at all. Maybe Burke knows he'll get claimed.

Hmm, perhaps. Like Murray not giving Bass a contract?

That would suck for a guy like Orr, who has taken on the league's heavyweights consistently, to not wind up with his pension.

Can't stand Orr as a player because he's awful but 22 games from his NHL pension is basically a crime. For his sake I hope he somehow finds a way to get into 22 more games over the next few years... strictly from a human being stand point. Can't imagine the guy can even count on one hand so he probably needs it.
