Shrug

According to Senschirp it looks like it is,

Speaking of bizarre coaching decisions, it really sounds like Clouston's fate has been decided. There are rumours out there that suggest he won't even perform the traditional exit interviews with players.

I'd hope that our organization is not that disrespectful that they wouldn't let clouston take part in exit interviews. That just sounds absurd.

Actually it sounds somewhat smart. Why would you want a guy who will have no affiliation or responsibility with the team next year taking part in the exit interviews?

I don’t know what all the kerfuffle is over Melnyk. Yeah, he puts his foot in his mouth. Y’know what? He OWNS THE TEAM. He writes the cheques (granted, with a lot of our money). He is clearly dedicated to seeing this team win. Would we prefer to have an owner who sits in the background, says nothing, and sets a budget lower than the cap to try and ensure profitability?

I get the impression that nothing will satisfy some of the people here.

Let the people with the specialized knowledge, and whom you pay to make those decisions, make those decisions. I like helping people, and I'm even a doctor (of LOL English lit), but I'm going to step aside for the real doctor when someone is bleeding out in front of me. Why? Because he's the one with the specialized knowledge, and this is his job.

If Melnyk wants to win, he needs to hire the right GM, and then sit back and do NOTHING other than cheer. He's not helping and, at times, he's actually hurting the team. He needs to stop acting like he knows anything about hockey. He's not a GM or a coach. He's a fan with a lot of money.

You have to admit that Melnyk is Steinbrenner/Jerry Jones ish. That's a good thing but also a bad thing (if you're team isn't winning).

No wonder they call him "The Ringmaster."

Exactly. He’s a fan with a lot of money. If I were the owner (a fan with a lot of money), I’d have a hands-on approach too, and would likely influence hockey decisions here and there if I thought I was making a smart move.

Yeah, he’s probably made a couple of mistakes (any influence he had on the Kovalev deal). I hope he’s more or less learned his lesson and will try to let the hockey minds make the hockey decisions. He’s passionate though, so sometimes his desire to win will likely lead to him meddling a little. What has he done lately that’s had a negative impact on team?

I’m happy he’s our owner. The man is willing to swallow losses if he thinks it’s going to lead to a winning team. A fan with a lot of money is better than a businessman with a hard-on for profits.

If Melnyk had a hard-on- for profits he wouldn't have bought the team.

I can't imagine any businessman wanting to make money buying an NHL team.

His comment last night that went something like "hoping we get it right this time" about the rebuild encourage me to think that he's going remain a little more "behind the scenes" ... but it could have been taken a number of other ways ...

He got the building and the team for a relative pittance and he established Capital Tickets too, which is essentially a printing press for money.

He's at least indirectly making money off this team.

The Ringmaster is doing A-OK. TwoThumbsUp!

Mendes: Melnyk says nothing is decided (re: Bryan Murray) yet. Meeting with him later this morning. Hopes to make announcement "shortly".

Mendes: Melnyk wants to make sure GM is willing to be here 2-3 years. Whether that is Murray remains to be seen.

Brennan: "In some way I'd like to see Bryan part of the organization," says Melnyk. "But it's a discussion that has to take place."

Not sure how to read this... I guess it will depend on what Murray wants to commit to...

Probably Tim Murray from the sounds of "2 to 3 years" and "shortly". Who knows though.

I will seriously have to re-think my allegiance to this organization if it sees fit to install that clown. That's how much of a joke I think that guy is.
