The guy is on a ridiculous roll right now and it's an extremely small sample size. I'll begin to get a bit more excited if he can at least sustain capable number one netminding or better the rest of the way and into next season.

He did it in Colorado and Florida so he is certainly capable.

Questions on Anderson:

1) How does he handle a long slump/losing streak and the boo birds sitting by the glass who won't someone else to boo not named Spezza
2) How will he react when the fine gentlemen of impeccable journalistic integrity at Sun Media start writing articles about him during said slump
3) What sort of contract/salary demands does he have in mind ?

Fixed

He did it for one full season in Colorado as a starter. Did he do it as a starter in Florida?

He stole that starter spot from Vokoun one year, yes. He was playing better hockey in Florida then he was in Colorado has hard as that is to believe.

If you go back into some of the archieves here, I bring him up as a goalie Ottawa should target while he was down in Florida.

This isn't a fluke what Anderson is doing, he is really this good.

On the topic of Anderson, there is an article in the Sun today which makes it seem like he wants to be in Ottawa for a while and if The Sens want him, there is a match made in heaven. I think The Sens have their elite goaltender that can turn a bad team into a playoff team.

The 2-year, $4.5M contract Howard signed yesterday will be a decent comparable if Anderson is to sign before the end of the season. I would think we would all agree that this would be a good figure to get Anderson signed to, although he might come in a little higher. My bet is on something like $5-5.5M for two years.

I think a guy like Anderson will take a little less for a little more term. Personally, I don't see Ottawa signing him for anything less than a 3 year deal coming in around 7.5-9 mil. Guessing 8.5 total.

If he gets a 3 year deal I sure hope it's in the 2.5ish range max.

Meh, 2.5-3 mil, not gonna cry over what amount to pennies. Fact of the matter is consistant and solid goaltending behind a very young team will probably be worth way more than 3 mil by week 2 of the season next year.

Niemi (apparently) just got a 4 year extention, value TBD. That will set the market.

Well, again, one less place for Anderson to sign... I will say he comes in around somehwere between Howard and Neimi, probably on the lower end. I think Neimi has proved him self to the point that he deserves that contract, maybe a little over paid but he's been solid for 2 years now and has a cup ring.

The good thing is Anderson will not come in over that. Anything under 4 mil a season I don't think anyone should be unhappy.

I think Howard and Neimi will set the market, both number 1 guys but Neimi has the cup ring, big difference there. I think Anderson will fall somewhere inbetween those two, but closer to Howard.

4 million per year apparently. Howard JUST got signed to a 2.25 per year, what makes Niemi that much better? A Cup ring? Sure, but what goalie wouldn't have succeeded with that team in front of him.

Yeah, he totally stole Vokoun's job for a while.

Doesn't matter, he's proven himself to be a number 1 and he has a cup ring to go along with it. 4 million might be a little more than he's worth, but not by much.

All these goalies being signed you would have to think Anderson is next. Fact of the matter is Ottawa is going to have next to no option next year if they don't get him locked up long term.

They've probably already had initial talks.

I doubt Niemi was ever an option. Vokoun, Bryz, Anderson were the 3 I was hoping for, we have one of them, time to sign.

Doesn't matter if he was ever a true option, the fact remains that there are 3 goaltenders that are UFA's at seasons end, 1 will more than likely resign in Pheonix, the other there will be a bidding war for between teams like Colorado, Chicago, maybe throw Philly and Toronto in there as well.

Murray put Ottawa in a position to sign a legit number 1 goaltender by trading Elliott (still can't believe that) that no one else will have a chance to. This was Murray's best move by such a large margin it's not even debatable.

It was a good move, but is still a risk until he signs his name on the dotted line. I think the mounds of praise should wait until that time. Mild approval is perfectly fine though Laugh1

I fully expect Murray to give a NMC to Anderson Facepalm

Why wouldn't you? If he craps the bed a year in he won't be able to be moved anyways. If giving him a NMC makes things easier in terms of signing a legit number 1 goaltender, you do it.
