Indeed. Not sure I see the greatness of a pick that could be as late as 30th and a 3rd as late as 90th is a fantastic return but I guess we'll see.

The Nashville 1st round pick we received for Fisher could be as late as 30th as well. Not sure I see the greatness of that deal either.

How about we just wait and see and let the chips fall where they may?
In which case we'd also get a 2nd round pick.

Yes, true enough!

No because we're Ottawa. We made basically the same trade, have better players, but we are the ones that will have to wait 3 - 5 years.

If he actually said that about the Leafs, he's not at all fit to GM a team.

Well, there's that, & then there's the fact that he's a blow-hard douchebag who brings no credibility & would instantly turn our franchise into a bigger joke than it already is, much like the effect the Barry Melrose signing has, perception-wise, on TB a few years ago. Let's not forget either point.

By the way, Pierre McGuire says that this deal starts a Philly-style turnaround for the Leafs. Citing Jurke's brilliant Genius-ness.
I find it hard to believe even McGuire would say that. Leafs have no where near the assets Philly did when they bottomed out and started the turnaround. Also, the Leafs still don't have their own 1st round pick.

Believe it. It was like a Valentine's day audio-card to Brian Jurke a day after the big day. Very entertaining.

Yeah, I was up for giving him a chance, but if he said that, he's light years out of touch.

The 24-year-old Versteeg meanwhile, sat sixth on the team in scoring with 35 points, but Burke believed he failed to fit as a Leaf. "I remember when I was a rookie GM," Burke explained, "I asked [former Bruins GM, coach and current President] Harry Sinden back in '92 and I said "Any advice?" He said "Yeah, when you make a mistake and get a player that's not working it, fix it. Kris just didn't mesh here."

Oh, Burke is such a PR doctor and spin-ster.

Back when he was GM of ANA, he shipped out O'Donnell to LA because, he said, 'he wasn't cutting it.' But anyone watching the game knew that was BS -- that O'Donnell was one of the only guys on the team 'cutting it,' and that he was shipped out at the time because he was one of the only guys on the roster who held any value.

So, Burke the Genius decides Versteeg the Cancer needs out OR Versteeg the Perceptive recognizes that Toronto is a Black Hole for Hockey Careers & asks to get moved? We'll never know. But Burke will always spin it as him being smart, honorable, magnanimous, & perceptive.

The guy is such a blow-hard.

Right now I'd take Pierre over Burke. That's how much of a cluster**** this has been in Toronto.

Two peas in a pod. Don't get mixed up with either of them, is the real solution.

I'd take the infamous neck tie over Burke. Dancing

I'd guess it's a little of both... Versteeg probably didn't want to be part of the "always going nowhere" ship called the Toronto Maple Leafs... and the Leafs didn't have the pieces around him to make him effective. He's a complimentary player, not one that makes players around him better.

You're right technically but it's much more likely that Philly's pick will be a very late pick than it is that Nashville "Can't win a round in the playoffs" Predators is of even remotely being considered likely to be 30th. Thanks for trying though.

Haha. You are right. The top seeds in the East and West always make it to the Stanley Cup Finals.

I wish I could alter my predictions to support the point I am trying to make at any given moment.

Lets just wait until the playoffs are over for you to tell me I'm right. Wink

Haha. That is all I am saying. You are trying to qualify your opinion on a trade based on something that hasn't happened yet. I am not sure your motives on the need to say so quickly, that this trade is so bad for Toronto. Why not just wait and see what happens before being so adamant on the outcome of a draft postition?

The odds right now are 5.5 to 1 that Philadelphia wins the Stanley Cup and drafts 30th. If you are saying that pick is almost a guaranteed 30th overall, how about I become your bookie and risk $100 with me?

Even the oddmakers give it a less than 20% chance of it happening; you seem pretty sure.

Point is it's gonna be a late pick regardless and most likely (the odds are in my favour) it'll be a later pick than the NSH pick.
