no I think its to replace ruutu. COrrect me if I'm wrong, but here's how I see the breakdown:

Butler, O'Brien replace Alfie, Fisher
Butler, Condra replace Alfie, Fisher
Butler, Condra, Greening, Benoit replace Alfie, Fisher, Kelly, Gonchar
Lessard replaces Ruutu now

I don't think a trade is coming.......they probably just called up lessard so they don't deplete the Diddle out of bingo. Greening, Condra, and Butler being up here is enough along with their most offensive dman

What's embarrassing is spending 59M for the crap that was on the ice for the first 55 games this year. This is a rebuild, and if you're going to rebuild you can't do it half assed.

I am getting pissed-off to be honest with you. All year people have cried for a rebuild or to blow it up, yet when one of THEIR favorite players is moved or not resigned, the management doesn't have a clue. Every single whinner on this board has a different idea on the rebuild, guess what, none of you are paying the bills, around the players every day and none of you are the talent evaluators that the professionals are. I am not singling anyone out here, we are ALL guilty of doing this.

This has become an interesting study of a young fan base. This is the first group of "Senators for life" that are being shipped out (except coke head). I hope this leads to the fans beginning to cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey as opposed to the name on the back.

This is definitely gut check time for the fanbase, can't say I'm confident we'll pass with flying colours.

That's the whole point of a hockey forum, there are differing views. Isn't that why you come, you want everyone to nod along and be happy with everything that's done? To be honest, none of the guys that have been moved were favourites of mine at all, I'm pleased Fisher was moved, I'm on the fence about Kelly, I'm pleased Ruutu is gone.

Everyone differs on the rebuild and what it is that's happening here. I have my own view - and that's that we'll be back in it in 3 years - providing the proper steps are taken to import talent along with draft picks. We could be competitive earlier if we acquire some top end talent to help the youth movement, but I'm really not sure if they're planning on doing it.

EDIT: I do think it would be a critical error for the Sens to trade Spezza though - if that's what you meant.

I should apologize. You are right about this being a place for differing views and debate. My problem is more with the whinning after each trade, especially Fisher and Kelly. It's everywhere, on the radio, in the papers and even permeated this site.

Generally speaking I enjoy reading/discussing both the game and the business of hockey, but sometimes the emotional responses to individual players and managerial moves gets frustrating. I guess I just see it differently, I think of the players as meat. They are assets to be shuffled around as need be and the only thing that matters is the team.

I think you're right in a lot of places. I can't even listen to the post-game with the ridiculous callers and I also have a hard time with the 'Murray can do no right' crowd.
