Q players playing in a league with a lot less talent and not putting up the same numbers... they are not even in the discussion with Strome and RNH.

Couturier is definitely in the discussion Laugh1 You don't make the WJC for no reason.

Funny, Strome gets ranked below him AGAIN in the recent ISS rankings.

Foligno made the team and he's awful but all the sudden because of the WJC he is now considered a steal by some in the 4th round. Couturier was picked because he fit the team needs in terms of size mixed in with skill. Cameron had an idea in mind when he built that team, Couturier was fortunate enough to fit that mold.

As for Strome, I said his draft status will depend on what he does coming out of the playoffs, as of right now what he is doing is more impressive than what Couturier is doing in The Q.

Like I said, if you would like to wager whether or not Couturier is taken in the top 5 I absolutely will. ISS rankings outside of the top 3 are hardly ever inline with what actually happens let alone in mid season rankings.

I don't wager with anonymous people on the internet.

Point being is ISS was pimping this guy for 2 years now and he's taken a major fall in the ranking based on what they came out with just before Christmas and despit being part of Team Canada. A team with a decent scouting staff will take the riser in a tougher league who is 8 months younger in Strome over Couturier... if he is picked in the top 4 it's because Florida has no idea what it's doing.

Sean Couturier is like the prototypical Dale Tallon pick. Fits the mold of a Jonathan Toews. I will be very surprised if they pass on him actually. Just because they pick him over Strome doesn't mean they don't have any idea what they're doing...in fact, fi that happens, you'd have to think they know SC will be a better NHLer. They're banking on a guy who has fallen a bit in the rankings who has the ability to step into the lineup immediately and contribute, and a guy who has been a mainstay in Team Canada tournaments. The fact that Ryan Strome has had only 1 good season scares me a bit, too.

I don't. Tank nation for me is more of the implications on Nashville pick. Anaheim needs to Cussing win this game badly. Waht a golden opportunity for Calgary last night and they blew it.

Yeah, the question will be: will we be in the 11-14 area, or do we need to trade up? Some great players in that range + someone will surely fall (Couturier? Sarcasm )

PS that mono was a big factor in why SC's points aren't as high as they could be. Calling a team stupid fro picking him despite the fact that he fell in the rankings would be like calling Murray stupid for picking Cowen.

In what way is he anything like Toews? Toews was a proven winner, dominated college at the age of 18, and had had obvious leadership qualities from the very start. Couturier hasn't really done anything all that impressive as a draft eligable player this season, was medicore at the WJC, and isn't even the concensus BPA out of the The Q.

Why would a 17 year old who has domianted The OHL scare anyone? The guy is doing more in a tougher league than Couturier is currently.

I'm not saying a team is stupid for picking him, I'm saying it would be stupid to pick him above Strome who is turning into a better prospect.

Seeing the last ISS rankings, Jensen and ZIbanejad have been rising as I predicted. We trade up to get Strome or Huberdeau. IF no one wants to give their pick, we pick one of them. No biggie. The closer it is to 11 thoigh, the easier it will be to trade up.

Armia and Saad are in that area as well. Bountiful pick (hopefully)!

As for moving up, I have strong doubts a team will give up a top 10 pick - likely 6 or 7 to get Strome or Huberdeau - without getting something quite valuable back. Not sure if we could swing it.

Stranger things have happened, like Gormley and FOwler going 12-13. Some people just wanted forwards and maybe this year some will just want defensemen. So Hamilton, Siemens, Oleksiak, Murphy etc might all go top 10. which leaves one of Huberdeau, Strome or Couturier at 8,9,10. Then you offer Nashville's pick (11-14) to go to 8 along with whatever 2nd rounder and a prospect.
Who knows, I could see Minnesota taking another Finnish (armia) too if they end up top 10 which is sitll a possibility.

You know what, too many possibilities i'm gonna stop there.

Laugh1 Yeah, there are literally 100s of variables right now. IF one of those guys falls to 8,9 or 10, then I could see it happening a little more than if we had to move to 6 or 7.

Couturier = 1.66 PPG

Huberdeau = 1.56 PPG
RNH = 1.52 PPG

Does that put things in persepctive a little better?
I know you have your doubts about the kid, but let's not penalize him for missing games while representing his country.
