So why aren't we drafting a francophone again?

If Couturier was Francophone and was developed his whole life in Quebec, I would be weary of drafting him. Snice he is frmo New Brunswick and has been a star everywhere he plays, I am not at all weary of picking him. He is a safe and great pick in my opinion.

I meant McGuire, not you. I have literally sat at OHL games with a pro scout that used to be my coach many nights in Ottawa. I've picked up a ton as well and that's what I base my opinion on. Quality of competition is a huge factor in a decision to draft a player.

I know, but I assume they factor that in when they ranked Strom 19th and SC 2nd.

Their opinions don't change much. I have found that when scouts have a hard on for someone it doesn't differ for month to month or even year to year. There is a reason why teams like Detroit, Philly, Ottawa (less Muckler's time), NJ, and Nashville draft so well.

I would draft a francophone no problem, just not out of The Q unless it was a sure bet (at least much more so than an OHL, WHL, SEL player)

I think we have short memories regarding the Q. Mike Hoffman dominated that league, didn't he?

Haha with a 5th round pick I would absolutely take a chance on a player from The Q, haha. I'm not saying they shouldnt be drafted but with a top 5 you better be damn sure he is legit and not just a product of the league he plays in, I think Couturier is more of a product. I'm not saying I am right I am just giving my opinion and I think a lot of teams are headed that way.

A little different, he was a much later pick, and there weren't great expectations of him (and really, there still isn't).

It's a funny league for sure. I'm not too aware of their minor hockey structure although Cornwall (Ontario) for some reason is part of the midget draft pool for the Q.

All I'm pointing out is the issue of dominating the league. Obviously it's 2 different circumstances but it's also an example of a player dominating the Q and potentially going nowhere.

Exactly. Corey Locke is another example.

Too soon to tell about Hoffman. He is getting better and still has good potential.
ALso what he's done in the Q at 19, COuturier did it better at 17. THere are tons of guys dominating the OHL who have gone nowhere too anyway.

Pretty full slate of games there. Oilers play twice so a couple of wins should help.
