I'm starting to agree with you guys, this is becoming a little worrisome. Knowing us, we'll get the 5th pick and Anderson will bolt July 1st.

Only team besides Ottawa that doesn't have a #1 goalie (both goalies UFA).
Colorado as well but I'm assuming he ain't going back there.
Hoags wrote:He's not going to sign with Edmonton, no one does. Besides they're already paying Khabiboulin, they're not paying another goalie $3M+. They're tanking hardcore next year as well.
Detroit signed Howard and that's who they're sticking with.
Phoenix can't even afford to stay in the city much less sign another goalie. Maybe Glendale will start selling bonds so they can afford Bryz or a replacement. If the shady Hulsizer deal had done through they'd have resigned Bryz by now. They'll be in Winnipeg next season, I can see all the FA lining up now.
Philly doesn't have the cap space, they're doing the "spend big $ on D, cheap goalie" approach anyway. We all saw how Holmgren is willing to (not) offer big $ to goalies this summer.
Leafs will go with Reimer, they still got Gus and a few others I think.
I should've said there are 2 realistic options for Anderson, other stuff might happen but I seriously doubt it for reasons stated above.

Forgot about Howard in Detroit. Regardless of where Phoenix's franchise is, they'll need a goaltender if Bryz doesn't resign. I don't think Winnipeg is an option for next season. That would require Bettman to admit fault, and we all know he doesn't do that.
I just can't see Anderson being down to 2 teams if he continues to play lights out for us. On July 1, he'll attract interest I would think. We'll see I suppose.

I still think Colorado is going to be very tough to catch. Ottawa is running out of games and Colorado isn't going to win just 2 or 3 games in their last 40 games... I don't think so anyways. If that actually happens they deserve the top draft pick because that's just a sad, sad state of affairs right there.

6 back yes, but with a game in hand. That could be down to 4 with any (bad) luck. Colorado is basically 3 wins ahead of us. With the amount we've gained on them in the couple weeks since the deadline, that's not a big cushion. Odds are we'll finish behind of them, but those odds are getting smaller by the day. Like I said, the trends over the past few weeks for each team makes this a real concern.

The only question now is who amongst those 3 teams will get the #3 and #4 spots. I think NYI will finish ahead of us (they have been playing decent hockey for some time) and get the #5, but the other two are up in the air. What we need is for OTT and FLA to have similar records -- winning, losing, .500, whatever -- to close things out. Given that Vokoun is playing as well as Anderson is, it seems possible to me. A loss in our final game against FLA would be nice, too, tho', that's for sure.
But if you ask me, we should be prepared to finish with the #3 or #4 pick. #3 would be fantastic of course, and #4 not so fantastic.
Regardless of what happens, tho', I'm 100% behind the decision to acquire Anderson. Trading for him says to him, 'we like you, we want to see if you can be part of the solution.' It's us getting a much-needed head start on the UFA period and working towards solving the problem. If Anderson backstops us to a #4 finish and walks, so be it: if that happens, it happens in spite of the fact that BM is doing everything he can to address our #1 need and to help create a winning culture for the kids to play in. If he signs, under just about any circumstances, it is all worth it, IMO.
All that said: start McElhinney tonight!
