They really brought him in for this season but for whatever reason, the team just isn't playing well. Its going to be difficult, they got a very tough schedule coming up. why next week, they play boston, detroit, and LA...all at home though.

I won't say anything about the Mike Fisher trade (4 points in 11 games for Nashville), but there were definitely indicators there that Nashville should have seen. It's not like he had a good season here - the opposite, he was rubbish. But hey...that was their only move at the deadline, so they have to live with it now.

From their perspective though, he fits right in with that lunch pail crew, and the fact that he's married to Carrie Underwood is certainly a PR dream.

Yup, The Fish certainly brings "intangibles" wherever he goes. You might recall in Ottawa it was "goodness in the community."

Murray sold at the perfect time in terms of both Fisher and Kelly. Their stock wasn't going to be much higher.

Fisher is on the downside of his game to be sure, seems like all the bumps and bruises have finally caught up.

Fans seem happy with him and his work ethic though. They know he's not some offensive juggernaut and 4pts in 11 games fits the bill pretty well for fisher.

Maybe still recovering from injury? bah whatever. I dont' care how he does as long as nashville loses.

And, he's damned handsome. I love you

Fans just like the guy and they'll find something positive in his Dung game no matter what. He's just a golden boy and people fall for that Dung all the time. Dancing

Fisher hasn't been the Fisher I remember from the good old days for some time.

I think he's still a talented and effective player to an extent but he's no longer worth what he is getting paid. Similar to Wade Redden although I don't think his career will fall off a cliff like that.

I think it's injuries but I think I saw some comment that Carrie doesn't like the dirty stuff on the ice he used to so he toned it down / if not eliminated it.

In any case, the team isn't any worse without him and is potentially better now that we can slip a real #2 centre in his place/

He absolutely made one of the trades of the year with Nashville. Kelly I think could have still landed a pick next deadline or in the summer, but the Fisher trade was brilliant knowing what we all knew.

This is key for me. With a coach with stones, Fisher would have been the 3rd line C on this team and frankly, we wouldn't be better for it, but because of his salary + his penchant for going on major streaks and hitting 20+ goals, he was to be our 2nd line center for the duration of his contract. Now, the Sens not only save the money on his contract, but they really will have some options in the 2C position going forward - even if it's not that great next year, the flexibility is there to put a more consistent 2C in there to support Spezza.

He showed some stones by demoting Douche-ley and look where that got him. Once bitten...

I'm sure Fisher had more pull than Heatley ever did too.

yeah definitely no options. We all saw how Peter Regin played...he was definitely not ready to step in as a 2nd line center. What choice does a team have? Fisher HAD to be the 2nd line center. Now moving him to wing would have been an option but it doesn't look like that will ever be a long term plan for the fish.

Options my arse, Chris Kelly would have been better than 'I can't initiate contact' Mike Fisher. If not him, then Foligno, if not Foligno then Regin, if not Regin then Winchester. There was a terrific streak where Fisher was absolutely brutal, yet he continued to be penciled into the 2nd line C position.

No he didn't. And we're seeing proof of that right now. Did Regin have steady linemates at any time this year? Probably not.

Things will be back to square one in September and we'll start to see what these guys can do at that time.

oh please guys. with all due respect to kelly who probably comes close, the sens didn't have options. did we all suddenly forget about how much foligno sucked arse early on? and regin of course....this whole steady linemates thing is bogus. Regin got PLENTY of opportunity.

and there's a certain reputation you should take into account. Fisher just came off a career season....whatever the reason might be, he was/is more offensively gifted than Kelly. So yeah, in a season where everyone sucks, its easy to say that Fisher should have been replaced but really, we didn't have the talent.

they have options NOW that they have a hole to fill after spezza. considering the depth in the season, there's absolutely no way someone else should have been 2nd line center.

again do I think fisher is a 2nd line center? hell no, he belongs on the 3rd line to be most effective. But did he belong on the 2nd line on this team? yessir

Not playing with Neil and Ruutu, for example?
