2 important games that could impact the Sens drafting... tomorrow and Thursday, Leafs play Islanders and Devils.

The 20+ goals are the issue, the rough style isn't, the forechecking isn't and I doubt the leadership would take a huge hit, so just look at one of the top 6 leaving and a younger player stepping in. If you gave the ice time to a younger player...like Z.Smith, does he pot 20? I doubt it, but it's food for thought.

Yes but buy quick I also mean 2-3 years not 1. If we trade Fisher I would promote REgin even if he sucks, and put him with Alfie and Michalek. Spezza can play with Foligno and probably a UFA. I suspect Butler may chime in there from time to time. It's not gonna be a pretty line up, but we won't be aiming for the cup anyway.
THere's quite a few guys I like that in the 1st round that should be NHL ready (and contributing well) by the 2011-2012 season, but they also need to grow in the best environment.
THe most important thing for the SEns and often forgotten IMO, is to get a very good coach who will get the best out of everyone.

In other words, I'd like a 2009-2010 Colorado Avalanche type of team. We could have our own Duchene (RNH, if he works hard in the summer) and O reilly.

Any player in the draft is capable of being a star... it all depends on luck, dedication, training and all opportunity.

If Ottawa can get a late 1st, even a couple of 2nds, they have some flexibility to trade up if they wish, or just draft depth players. You never know how that 2nd round pick or even later will turn out.

I really hope they don't do the 'quick rebuild' thing. I don't think we have the NHL ready prospect depth for that.

Yeah, we need 2nds and 1st - either to move up, or to simply draft forwards.

Too lazy to pick out any specific post to respond to, but this goes back to the discussion of who we move to make room. Fisher, for sure, is a possibility. But why are we not seriously considering Regin, Shannon, Winchester. Is Winch really doing much of anything to help out? Smith should have his spot. Yes, I know it's a little harsh. And is there any way to send Regin back to the AHL for a year? I don't see why he deserves a spot in the roster over, say, Butler.

IMO you need at least 3 or 4 Winchester, Smith or Shannon-type players. Their utility, roles and salary are a must as part of the equation that equals a winning formula.

Not Shannon, he's useless, and I don't care how much money he makes. All he has is speed, but speed's nothing if you don't use it to do something else.

I disagree. Able to play any role mid-game, at almost bare minumum salary, a bit of energy and that is good enough for me right there.

He is as versatile and cheap as they come; that in itself is valuable to any team.

I like Shannon.

We've had this Shannon discussion before you and I, but I'll say it again, that with Winchester and Smith most likely to be locks on this team next year, we can afford to let Shannon walk.

SDH89 is right. Even if you like him, there's no chance that he gets re-signed.
