VAUGHN, N.M. — A Colorado woman has died in a crash that left her Texas passenger hospitalized in critical condition. Police said 18-year-old Elizabeth Turgeon of Cherry Hills Village died in a two-vehicle accident near Vaughn early Thursday.

Turgeon was the daughter of former Colorado Avalanche player and 19-year National Hockey League star Pierre Turgeon. She was a 2010 graduate of Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch.

Investigators say Turgeon was driving a pickup that crashed into the trailer of a semi at the intersection of U.S. 54 and U.S. 60 just after midnight.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Passenger Brittany Kraemer, also 18, of El Paso suffered life-threatening injuries.

Very sad.

Horrible news just before Christmas.

There was an accident not far from here a couple of days ago -- an elderly couple's car got hit on the passenger side and the female passenger was killed. I figure that's someone's grandma that won't be spending Christmas with the grand-kids. And just the day before that a 9 year old boy fell through the ice in the Rideau river and drowned. Not that it's any easier living down tragedy if it happens at other times of the year, but it really makes holidays tough -- everyone 's happy, smiling or just exhausted from shopping, and all you want to do is go away and not talk to anyone.

Really sad news.

Not just the holidays this year, but every year after the holidays are a tough time. Very sad news.

Yeah, sorry I wasn't clear, but that's what I meant.
