Karlsson is now tied with Spezza in points and only two behind Alfie for the team lead.
But I think that's probably more of a bad thing than a good thing.

Best. Quote. Ever.
well if it stays that way till the end of the season then melnyk will have the choise. tank and get a great pick, or make the playoffs and get knocked out first?wprager wrote:I can't believe we're 5 points out of a playoff spot ... and 3 points out of a lottery pick

From a second year defenceman who's already been benched? Yeah, that's definitely a bad thing.

wprager wrote:I also think that Karlsson will help fill the seats if he continues to play well -- and by "well" I mean continue scoring. He's on a 45-point pace (if he played a full 82 game schedule) but with the right ice time he could get to 50+. And by right ice time I mean playing more PP (Gonchar had almost 2 minutes more PP time) and being put on with the top line.
For years we had the top line almost always playing in front of Philchenkov. I always thought that probably affected their totals a bit. With Phillips back there they still have that defensively responsible D-man, and Karlsson can make up for some of his mistakes with speed. Spezza has also improved the defensive side of his game (saved a goal last night) which makes for some intriguing possibilities.
